John, my buddy had a big rotty named "get 'em". How would you like walking into this guys house, his rotty was the first thing to jump up and greet you and hear someone yell Get'em!?

As you can see from my avatar, I have a diamond back terrapin. His name is dave... you guys should know, more people look at him than my tank photos in my photo gallery. Great pet. The cat is our too. Muffin. She's originally from Korea. Here's pics of both.

Chris, in the last shot it looks like Dave is reaching up to say hello to Muffin?

are they friends

muffin is the supervisor. We take dave out of his tank and put him in a tupperware bucket to feed him. This keeps his tank much cleaner. After he's done, (or should I say, after all his food is gone and he craps in the bucket), we dry him off and let him walk around for a while. The cat walks around with him and they even half a$$edly play. She's a good cat.

Pics later.

A Red Ear Slider adopted from a girl who said it has been nine years old and can no lonnger take care of it. Me neither since I only had land turtle before.

2 Parakeets adopted from my buddy who left the country to service

A whole flock of Zebra Finches whose owner cannot handle that many of them since they keep on breeding. Don't have another big cage to seperate the female from the males. Anyone has extra BIG bird cage laying around? I let them fly around in the house one by one when I am home. Unlike most people think, they do come to human beings if you show them your love. And, they do have their way of communication, if you walk by with , let say, a book, they will sound a certain sound. Then if you walk by with a beer, hey will sound a different sound. Very lovely things.

Some hamsters coming since the owner has exactly the same problem with the owner of the Finches. Don't know is it right or wrong to deny them wih sex by seperating the females from males. Don't wanna play god, yet over crowding will be an issue.

Deep most people I know with exotic parrots/birds have provisions in their wills about who and how to care for them when the time comes :skull: . Many times they outlive us because we get them when we are older and they are younger. Sad thought, but true.

Amazons are notoriously beligerent. My friend has one for at least 20 years now, Lucy. I would NEVER think of touching Lucy. I actually walk in a big arc around her cage when I'm there. Well the only two people that Lucy will have any kind of interaction with is my friend and her husband. Lucy bit the hand that feeds her just a few months ago (after 20 years) and bit hard enough to send my friend to the emergency room. The bite went all the way to the bone in her finger.

Their African Grey, Doc, is just like yours, as friendly to everyone as can be.

They also had a Cockatoo that they had to give away. Absolutely beautiful, but made the Amazon look like a pussycat. Just totally unmanageable.

I know you mentioned about your nieces, but remember, taking on the responsibility of a parrot is a life changing commitment. Vacations become tougher, etc. At your nieces ages they can't understand that yet, nor are they legally able to make that decision. What about when they go to college, etc.? My friends had to discuss with the prospective future guardian whether or not they would agree to take Lucy and Doc.

Parrots are super pets, but like you said, many times they outlive their best friends. Then what?

Sorry about the harsh reality of it. It's just a very difficult subject to broach with someone.

Enjoy them, they are beautiful and devoted pets.

Do you need some hamster stuff?
I hate to throw away some of the small cages and stuff.
