Thanks Jon! I haven't had a dog in 4 years so I'm pretty excited. Now maybe he will keep me occupied enough to leave my corals alone ;)

Kermit and peper (not double p?) are kool.
Now peewee on the other hand (pun intended) is not my first choice

WoW I don't know what to say. Could we get some more info on the little guy? How long have you had him? What does it take to get myself one:lol:?

since 2003. i bought two as a pair from a Florida breeder, back when they were legal in New York State. i believe in JAN05 an anti-exotics law went into effect and an inspector came to my house in FEB05 saying he had info from the state veterinarian that i have 4 "monkeys". actually i had already just given up the pygmy marmoset pair because they were not breeding for me and more "Smelly". so i had to complete some paperwork and permit fee in order to keep my marmies.

anyway it's true, they are a real handful, turns out they are 2 males so its a dissappointment but at the same time a blessing in disg because if they bred while i am in NYS i would have be breaking some technical bureacratic law by reproducing them in state where they are now illegal (except by grandfathering permits). so pretty much what it takes to get one nowadays is you gotta be out of NYS)

i personally don't consider them true monkeys because they behave much wilder and "Squirrel" like than even tamarins and squirrel monkeys. they do not get very tame since i have more than one. they have their own wild grace i guess. very far from domestic pets. primates as a general rule make the worst of pets because of their wild, agressive, neurotic behaviors (just like alot of humans). they are shy and get nervous/irrate easily so they are best left alone. i got them because they are among the least related to the higher primates, so they are much safer in respect to zoonotic diseases (they don't catch human colds or flus like other higher primates).

will upload a couple more pics in my gallery when i get a chance in a few days.

grim, interesting stuff. I'd like the pix too. Does the Jan. '05 law mean no more Capuchins (sp?) either? I like organ grinders :fight2:

Russ

yup no more any type of primates. nada on private ownership. yeah thats the right spelling on the organ grinders :) save for circuses, other Exhibitor permits.
not even some types of snake like boa or pythons anymore, i think (not sure). a whole heap of once common pets. lol iguanas are illegal in NYC but all over Craigslist. one day they might ban exotic marine unless you take special courses or something like that. as CITES lists grow. exotic is so relative.

basically, NYS/NYC prescribes what the ideal pets we ought to have : dogs and cats. basically they want every street to smell like gramercy park and the pounds to be at an advantage. they don't seem to notice all the pitbulls and mauled victims.

Thanks Herman. Poison dart frogs are like reef fishes of the reptile world. They come in all types of bright color combinations. They are very easy to care for also.

Cheers,

Ruben
