My power is still out, but I did score a heavy duty extension cord and have the fridge back on at this point :)
No stove, so going to have to go out and get food thats hot at some point.

The generator is doing good on gas and we're not even using half of the power it puts out (5000w), though my brains are rattled from the noise... aspirins help :)
It is without a doubt my very favorite piece of machinery right now :spin:

Went out early this morning for a drive through my town and wow, we are going to have to plant a lot of new trees. Fences are knocked down on every block. Roof damage is extensive to the local businesses.

I do have some fooding in my basement, but it isn't too much and is to be expected as I am only about 200 feet off the Atlantic.

So very sorry for your losses SIReefer :(

My power was flickering a few times was at work and wife called and told my. came home and tank was full of micro bubbles the skimmer was over flowing because of the power going on and off my corals were not happy. Turned the skimmer of had a tone of foam all in the sump, waited a few hour and turn the skimmer on and dialed it down just so it doesnt over flow again when the power go out again . But every thing was fine in the tank luck my skimmer in the sump.

I come to the point where I feel that this hobby isn't fun any more!!! I was without power for 16 1/2 HOURS Starting Saturday evening through Sunday!!!!!! I then figured it was going to be a long night and my tank was going to suffer. My 2 battery back ups died right before midnight so I pulled out my battery powered air pump which had two used D cell batteries so that meant a run to the 24hour CVS. With the new batteries in place I went to sleep and prayed. I did get up twice and mixed the water around abit but the temp dropped to 64 degrees so I started to boil water to heat up this hot/cold pack I had. I kept heating it up and was only able to bring the water up to 67:mad:. Finally the power was restored at 12P.M in the afternoon and to my surprise I didn't lose a single coral or fish(all stressed but ok).
Below are pics of the transformer that almost ended my days on MR and the hobby.

Con Ed sucks. I lost almost everything. When I gave Con Ed my address on Saturday I was told that power would be restored on Sunday around 3pm so I tried to keep the water temp up (if it was this week there would be no probs - Murphys law) well needless to say the power did not come on. The next day Con Ed said the latest would be 1 pm for power restoration as a crew is working in my area. Again no power. When I talked to a VP I know at Con Ed he said be prepared for an outage of at least 4-5 days duration & when I went to the SI Mall for free dry ice I checked with the Con Ed tempoary headquarters & they told me to be prepared for no power until at least the weekend. Right away I went & bought a generator hooked it up & 1 hour after hookup the friggin power came on (once again Murphys law). I usually don't badmouth anyone but Con Ed Sucks-the misinformation they gave me was the demise of my reef setup. I lost it all. Fish, Inverts & corals. The power finally came on after midnight Tuesday. The smell from my tank was something I'll never forget - a half dozen rotting anemones, 9 fish, inverts, cucumbers, & stuff that I didn't even know I had. When I was salvaging what I could & putting the tank back together, the power went out again for over an hour. This really sucked because I gave the generator to a friend who still had no power (Murphys law again). Today I get a prerecorded phone message from Con Ed sayin that my power will be restored by Friday-please be patient. I already had power on since Monday night. These F#ck*&n Idiots have no clue-from the lineman to the administration to the help desk. Sorry I just had to vent.

Thanks Kathy. Most of what I had were softies. The SPS all died. The softies - mushrooms, xenia, leathers, zoas - were the first to go, they just melted away. My temps went down to 56 degrees. I have battery backup air stones but that didn't help against the temperature drop. Strangely enoough the only corals that survived were about 75 heads of frogspawn. One fish - Lil Nemo the male of the perc pair lasted but is not eating. We are all cheering him on.

Kathy I couldnt even see into the tank. I had some water already made so I cleaned & dunked the rocks, placed them in water in a 30 gallon rubbermaid tub & completely emptied the tank and sump. After cleaning the equipment I filled up w/warm tap water & mixed the salt in the tank. Not the best way but what I came up with. Next morning I rinsed the rock again, aquascaped & put in the survivors. I'm hoping for the best. I'll be changing out the tap water w/new water when I get a chance. Too bad the temperature during the storm wasn't like yesterday & today. At least I now have a generator for the next power outage.
