I go to a restaurant every week with my girlfriend and the place has a 110 gallon fowlr. They have had it running almost a year and its a forever problem. I speak with the owner on a daily basis and check it out every time i go there.

Anyways, it is maintained by Animal Kingdom in Staten island and they charge him 150 dollars a month, the price is irrelevant but for 1 visit i think its crazy when all they do is a water change, change pads, and constantly screwing the guy over.

They are constantly losing fish. In this hobby i understand that this happens but shouldnt be happening with an "experienced store" maintaining it. just seems like GREED

Around a month ago I told the owner that the fish were clearly sick with ick and he called animal kingdom. They came that week and treated the direct tank with copper, i know this because i seen the products and the owner told me what they added. They lost most of the fish. Some lived and when i went there i noticed their was around 50 dead worms on the sand and dead hermits. surprisingly 2 hermit crabs survived, maybe only for the time being.

A week later they got some new additions. Can you guess what two fish animal kingdom added for $100?

A Copperband Butterfly and Racoon Butterfly

neither of them have ate in over a week, im sure they will die. the owner of the restaurant told me they directed him to feed pellets [which is the only thing they feed the direct tank anyways]...:banghead:

Now i understand this is 1 sided because i only speak with the owner of the restaurant but i really dont know what else to make out of it except GREED. UNREAL!

I agree, I tried to get the job a while ago but they were a little hesitant about letting anyone maintain it other than animal kingdom. I think they want an establishment to maintain it and not someone trying to grab some extra side work. Its an asian restaurant and they seem a little weary of americans at times. Now that i have been pointing things out to him he has realized i know/care more about his setup than animal kingdom and would definitely let me work on it but tbh i don't want to take on the responsibility when i have a full-time job and run a business with my brother.. Plus i dont have a way to qt new additons which i would want to do in order to prevent any crash...or space for equipment. Im sure he will listen to me when i refer Tobin.I think he wants someone with an established company that has ambition to run it correctly at this point.

From the restaurant perspective. I wouldn't want to keep paying a maintainance fee for something they are not maintaining sucessfully. Why does this guy keep paying them for crappy service?

When someone on the island gets into this hobby, they immediately look through local ads and find this store and because it is local they start to frequent the location. So in essence it's a matter of not knowing. I can speak from personal experience when I say they are over priced and lack knowledge. For them it's a profit margin and not the education of the hobbist that drives them.

I can honestly say that everyone I know who has purchased livestock from them has had a problem keeping that livestock alive. And as for their prices, I have a friend that against my opinion bought a complete setup from them and paid well over triple the price. It is a shame that this restaurant doesn't realize that by not getting someone else they are keeping them in business.
BTW I believe I k ow the restaurant, and that livestock always look in poor condition.

i agree, the owners are from brooklyn. They searched and found animal kingdom which is very close to the restaurant and trusted them to take care of their tank. When you try to search their isn't anything else except them.

They are all about the money, their prices are unbelievable. When i say unbelievable its an understatement. Fish, 90% of the time look like they are gasping and their price tags on coral are 3x the amount they should be. And surprisingly all of the stuff sells. i go there on a weekly basis to buy RO water which i am done doing. I watched someone buy a frag of xenia for 65 dollars 2 weeks ago. it was basic xenia and would probably be a freebie or a 10 dollar frag on here.

Hardware or tanks? Never. you wouldn't believe how much they mark up stuff. a basic USED like 38 gallon has a price tag of like 350 lol...

anyways, they dont care about livestock and ill make sure they lose this customer.

Animal Kingdom is the worst pet store around. Living on the Island of Staten, it is the only place around and they suck newbies dry when you walk in there. I have had saltwater tanks before so when I moved out there and checked out there stuff, I played dumb (not hard to do for me) and they tried to rip me off.

What restaurant are you talking about? Just think of the business you would bring this guy, there are so many of us that would love to see the tank..

there are many other stores that would love to have their business.

If you stood in front of animal kingdom, just a 20-25 minute drive away is Ocean gallery, 10 -15 minutes is Aquatic Obsession. Along the same time line are a few others. Anyone of these stores would be happy to have your business.
