Has anyone used a seperate return pump to pump water out to do a water change?

And if so, do you know what the name of it is and where I can get one because I am going to force water out the window then fill tank back up with the new water

Thank you,

~James

I use one of my Blueline 70 return pumps. I have a ball valve on a a T that I turn when I want to do a water change to pump out old water. Don't waste $$ on a separate pump.

James, no need to purchase a new pump. If you have any MJ1200 laying around, just place it in your sump with a tube sticking our your window and turn on the pump when you are doing your water change.

Thanks guys for the advice, when I do my first water change, everything must be off right? I will put the pump in the sump and run the tube out the window.

Do you guys drain your DT or sump?? and when you refill do you do it directly into to the DT or have go into your sump??? Just curious???? Is one way better then another??

If my sump has sediment buildup, I will occasionally use water change time as an opportunity to pump out the buildup.

But I usually just siphon water from my DT into a 32 gallon garbage pail. Then I pump newly mixed water from an identical garbage pail, into my DT. This makes it easy to match the amounts of old and new water.

Most people wouldn't be pumping new water into their sump, because it would overflow. It would also kick up debris that might be best left alone, or pumped out at another time.

Most any pump will do. The more money you spend, the more powerful the pump, the faster the water will evacuate.

But there's no rush, and if your DT is higher than where the water will exit, you can also just start a siphon.

Or...

At one time I was running a MAG 3 pump on my system. So I purchased a second MAG 3 for pumping water during water changes, and so it would also serve as an emergency backup if my other pump ever stopped working.
