Everyones tank is different and so is need for maintnance, feeding, dosing etc it all depends on the size of your tank ,how many fish and what kind of corals u keep, My tank is 110g reef ready been runing 2 years now its a mixed reef mostly sps,lps i dose full cup of bionic 2 part in the am and then ones more at night , 25g water change evry 2 weeks ,I feed 2 cubes a day , got the swc 250 1A skimmer pulling lots of stinky stuff. 2 MP40s for good water flow, I run 2 reactors carbon, phosban that is changed ones a month plus a small refugium to keep the nutrients as low as i can, also i change light bulbs twice a year.and here is what the tank looks like. sorry i didnt feel like waiting 3 more years just to post in your tread :)

You really need to find what's good for your tank needs. What works for my DT might not be right for yours. That's why they have the general range for Alk and Ca++ and the such. Some tanks demand for Alk is higher than others or lower. As long as you practice routine maintenance by weekly or bi-weekly water changes and test at least weekly, you will always stay one step ahead. Do your change outs like you have. I also clean my skimmers chamber and collection cup every 3 days. From what you stated, you sound like your off to a good start. Keep that up. Find ways to make it easier for yourself, like dosing pumps and using controllers. These were the best advancements in the hobby along with protein skimmers and the test kits.. Be carefull on dosing aswell, find out your range for your tank... it can become a bit tricky at times. Keep up the Good Work!

A little tip on the feeding. Try feeding once a day, unless you have Anthias fish, right before your lighting is about to go off. This reduces algea growth in your display tank + your corals will suck up the foalting nutriens as their polyps extend for feeding at night.

I check my levels every morning and dose b ionic and magnesium as needed. I know alot of guys who have super stable systems with calc reactors who check their levels once a week to make sure everything is functioning properly, but i think if you are using a two part calc + alk everyday its important to check the levels and adjust the dosage, as your corals grow the demand for calcium grows so what may have been sufficient three months ago might not be enough to keep your levels stable now. I do small waterchanges every other day (5 gal on a 65g tank) its prolly more than i need to, but I like to feed my corals (im a firm believer in high import/export) and i feel better knowing that fresh water is constantly being added so that phosphates dont become an issue.

I dose brightwells reef biofuel (vodka substitute) once a day in the a.m. and add a drop of mb7 (bacteria) every other day after water change.

I add 1 capful of kent essential elements every two weeks

I add amino acids once a week

I feed my corals and 5 small fish once a day when the lights go out: 1/2 cube hikari mega marine frozen mixed with 5 ml oyster magnifique, 1/16 tsp coral frenzy (rotifers, freeze dried phyto, salmon roe, oyster eggs), 1 drop of kent pro series zoomax (cyclops).

just in case you want to check my credentials: kept aquariums my whole life, set up my first reef tank in 1998, worked at eddies aquarium in albany while in school (most of my coworkers now work at the state aquarium in florida), and Ive set up around 12 reef tanks for friends
