Hmmmm I wonder which fish are NOT acclimated. Maybe Albano can chime in and let us know.......
Vivid is a GREAT store, been there many times...a MUST visit if you go to Los Angeles. They have an unbelievable 14' reef tank, and more frags of more corals than you can imagine. HOWEVER, like a lot of other stores (ie
Reef Hot Spot,maybe
Blue Zoo, both good places), if you order something that is not in stock (may actually show 'in stock' online) they go EVERYDAY to the wholesalers/importers less than 1 hr. away at LAX, and get what you need.
Many people do not realize that
Live Aquaria (
NOT Divers Den) and many other online stores (not located in Calif), ship directly from Calif. importers. If you've ever been to any wholesalers/importers you'll know that the amount of 'conditioning' is usually limited to those fish that actually appear stressed/sick...but if the buyer wants it...$ talks!
I'm not saying that this is bad...it's the way things are...they are selling a perishable commodity...they want it gone! I have received many shipments from Calif/Hawaii/Florida directly to West. Cty. Airport... but I have a separate 200g+ Qt system...if I have a problem, they replace it.
Since they guarantee the shipments,
it IS in their best interest to ship a healthy 'looking' fish...but don't believe, for a second, that they actually take the time to watch every single fish, to make sure it's 'eating like a pig'!
Even if the fish was Qt'd before shipping, the shipping itself can cause problems...it is your responsibility to watch the fish, before adding it to your system.
Sorry, that my 2 cents turned into 3!
