what magnesium are you guy using been readinfd alot on the home depot stuff tried of paying 25 bucks for one gallon of tech m so any way is there a cheaper way?:smash:
I like the Seachem dry magnesium. I don't like Kent products and I think of all the companies out there Seachem is one of the few that has the science to back their claims.
i have been using esv salt for months and my mag is always 1290.. all other levels are on point as stated by esv.. i think i might have had a bad batch of salt. just bought a new 200 gal esv salt.. lets see how the readings are
no--it comes with a chart that lets you know how much u need to add for 1 gal-5 gal- and so on. i think i have been checkin my mag wrong with the salifert. i think i have been reading too early.. i just you tube some videos and my final color is not like the videos.. so maybe my mag is 1400 as stated by esv.
jerl- i will tell you since i started to use esv, all my corals have been happier and they have grown like crazy. really dont know what it is but this is some good salt.
HD doesnt sell mag flakes . Just buy esv salt I been using it for 8m now and my mag is always 1320 never go low . The ESV Salt has 4 additives one is the salt the 2 one is mag amd the other 2 are alk cal and trace elements . you can add what the chart says or raise or low what ever you want. And its read in 5m no waiting 24h for salt.
here read this .
A unique solution to many of the problems associated with all dry synthetic seawater blends.
Problem:
All dry blends may not be homogenous resulting in considerable chemical variations not only from batch to batch but also from within the same container. Aggravating this further, humidity contamination during storage can result in localized precipitation reactions.
Solution: B-Ionic Seawater System avoids these problems by providing the two dominant salts in our formulation in separate containers. All other major, minor, and trace elements are pre-dissolved in a highly concentrated two component liquid system. These dry and liquid components can easily be measured for any size batch of synthetic seawater.
Problem:
It is now recognized that most reagent grade salts can contain contaminants (trace metals, etc.) at levels which may inhibit the growth of some algae species from low nutrient environments (oligotrophic) such as coral reefs.
Solution:
B-Ionic Seawater System addresses this issue by providing ultra-low heavy metal Sodium Chloride (max. allowable less than half max. allowable for reagent grade sodium chloride) and USP grade Magnesium Sulfate as the dry components of the system. In addition, all other chemicals pre-dissolved in our liquid components are subject to our three phase purification process resulting in significant lowering of contaminants, including phosphate.
Problem:
Many all dry blends take excessive time to completely dissolve. Addition of newly mixed batches to the aquarium can cause irritation to inhabitants upon exposure to non-dissolved salt micro-particles.
Solution:
B-Ionic Seawater System avoids this problem by providing all of the slower dissolving ingredients in a pre-dissolved solution form. Batches can be used within 10 minutes of preparation with no adverse effects providing initial RO and/or DI water contains sufficient dissolved oxygen.
B-IONIC SEAWATER PARAMETERS (@ 34 ppt salinity):
450 ppm Calcium ? 3.25 meq/L Alkalinity ? 1400 ppm Magnesium

saltwater critters is where i get my ESV salt or any ESV product. i keep my magnesium level at 1650-1700 all the time. ESV salt, and a little extra magnesium from esv and the levels stay at 1650 all the time!
