From where I sit, this whole idea sums up pretty much everything wrong with the hobby today--- corals as trophy acquisitions with value determined by fancy names and false rarity. My challenge to you all--- buy corals you like and can afford and then grow them until the colonies are big enough that when you frag them you don't notice they have been fragged. There really are ways to enjoy this hobby without the compulsion to buy, collect and frag without end.

you do realize that in the years it will take to grow your rare and hyped coral, the price will come down exponentially. if you think of coral as an investment, you are going to lose out sooner or later. just my .02, have fun and good luck.

If you're doing a high end zoo pack you're almost better finding the same amount of people to buy in as frags you are getting.....then that way each person is getting a frag. Then you know who you want to trade with once you have them grown out.

So if you get sopranos, paridise, lima lemon, and another. 4 people to buy in each get one. More like a group buy if you are getting a good enough discount on the pack. My.02

I have seen and heard of quite a few group buys like this. I have only heard of one failure and the coral didn't die, The grower just kept the coral and gave out a false address and changed his phone # from what I was told. I like the idea of a group buy, but only with people that I know in person and I could go to their house and see their tank. I wouldn't get involved with somebody just saying hey you don't know me but I need 300 dollars from you for this to work.
