the thumb stopped bleeding already. my eye seems fine. i washed it out with water. only small bits of the blade got in and i took it out like you do with a contact. my eye only hurts a little from all the water i splashed in it.

if you start feeling irritation i would get your eye x-rayed for small fragments that you may not see, also the sharp edges of the blade might have cut your eye, is your eye bloodshot?

just found the other part of the blade, the middle part of the blade broke so it wasnt the sharp part. my eye isnt bloodshot and it feels ok now. I'll post updates

thnks for your help

and next time out... you should be wearing safety goggles when working with zoas.
+1 and use latex gloves when handling any type corals when fragging.

I read this somewhere, please read: Zoanthids are extremely toxic, and can be deadly in extreme cases to humans and their furry friends. I am aware of several cases where this coral has released toxins by squirting someone in the eye or mouth, so you will want to keep your mouth closed if not using a full face shield. Keep pets and children away while you are working with these. Disinfect your work area, and any tools used when you are finished. you might want to go and make sure your cornea isn't scratched. The procedure is really simple, the doc will put some dye in your eyes and then shine a light in them. Even if it isn't scratched, they'll probably give you some kind of ointment (erythromycin ophthalmic most likely) and an oral antibiotic to prevent infection.

Dang adam, you never have luck with fragging stuff. first you glue your fingers together with the reef glue now this

haha yah iknow..

my eye feels great, i think i got very luicky and from now on i will wear glasses to keep me protected. If anything does start to hurt or if i feel naucious i will go to the doctor, but for now nothing seems wrong and i seem perfectly fine.

...perhaps you dodged the bullet. I met a fellow at the last swap who has been "zapped" by his zoas when fragging a few times through cuts in his fingers (he is a mechanic), and he described his symptoms like this - that night, a few hours after he was fragging zoanthids with cut-up hands and no gloves on, he went to bed, and he woke up feeling like an elephant was sitting on his chest. The second time it happened, it felt much more intense.

The thing about exposure like this is that it can be really bad the first time out, or it can be not so bad the first time, but then much much worse the second time. All the advice you got has been great - gloves, safety glasses, and keep your mouth closed. But if it's a day later and you feel okay, I think you're fine. Next time could be really bad though. Be careful!

Also, how hard were you pushing on a metal blade for it to break? Seems like it would take an insane amount of pressure to literally break a blade in more than 2 pieces.

But yeah, when you frag ALWAYS non-powdered gloves, glasses, and stick to bone cutters :)
