I say if every thing is doing great dont beat your self up over testing. to many people stress them selfs out from over testing. I test like once a month right before i do my water change then i test me new water and thats about it.

One can get away without testing regularly IF --and it is a BIG IF--, you are experienced enough and in tune enough with your system that you can quickly notice subtle changes that indicate something might be going amiss. If you don't have this "sensitivity" to your system, you risk noticing stuff and reacting too late to prevent problems.

Regular (not obsessive) testing helps guard against this happening.

i dont support it but i tested the other day for the first time since i got my tank. i only have salifert - cal alk and mag tests.

i personally watch my cap, if something is off they are the first to let me know... they are a great heads up. and do roughly 25% water change a week.

I wouldn't say crazy, just not a protocol I'd choose is all. I believe in weekly testing at least especially if you're still going to be adding any more sps or lps corals to be able to adjust dosing and what not for the change in calcium/magnesium depletion.

I think they make test kits for a reason and not just for total noobs.

Ones a month cuz I got a lot of calcium suckers and I dose bionic heavy most of the time still not enough its easyer to keep it on point everything is growing and looks happy ones I get lazy things go bad quick then its harder to bring it back . So I keep it rocking testing 12 times a year is not bad .

i think testing is worth doing you spend all this money on your tank and corals, how hard is it to take 10 mins out of a day once a week to make sure your levels are ok. rather then waiting to notice a decline and health and then act on it, when it could potentially cause a problem. me personally i have my tank tuned in so perfect my levels have been stable for a month straight now with no fluctuations only on manual dosing and i still check once a week just to make sure. i think for long term success testing is important but thats just me

only time i test is when tank was cycling. after that i never did. everything was fine and dandy. weekly water changes religiously is all i needed. i didnt have any delicate sps. i think people with LOADS of corals like sps that suck up calcium are the ones that need to do the testing cus they have to dose. my tank was pretty cool for 3 years without testing.
