It comes and goes... When I had my first tank in Europe circa 2004 nobody cared about zoas, but that could be because colorful ones were not easily found there. People were mostly seeing them as weed.
At the same time, Acroporas were really what people were looking at with dreamy eyes.

I was actually surprised to see zoas for very high prices when I started my tank here two years ago... one head for a price that could get me an Acro colony?

What matters is: get what you like, do not follow fads. Oh and be patient, I see way too many people whose tanks are a collection of plugs rather than a nice tank. I am not a fan of the "frag rack" look...

I'm not into fads either. I also hate the look of a tank with frags everywhere. I promised my self from now on Ill buy one nice pc rather than buy 5 or 6 frags.

The part of this hobby is growing your frags not just adding colonies. Whats the fun in taking credit in someones else achievement. I only buy frags and in 6 months to a year you can look in your tank and say WOW i did that :)

Yep growing is where the fun is at, that's why I am into SPS's. For the beginners out there, start with a Montipora digitata or even better a Montipora hirsuta (elkhorn Montipora) and enjoy! They grow very fast and have amazing shapes.

Total agreement with James here!!
One I get much more pleasure in growing my corals from frags.;) So much more satisfying then to purchase a piece that has already been grown out by someone else.:usa1: Two, I buy what I can afford that is pretty in my eyes!

also it all depends on the persons liking. me i love zoas/palys. and blastos. im starting to get into chalices i just bought my first chalice yesterday with my girl she helped pick it out. its pretty awesome. but i think ZOAS/PALYS are the IN rite now. there's a million variations of colors and vast array of designs.

but that's just my opinion
