What is the Coral Database?
This is a free system for keeping track of coral colonies that we are growing locally as a community.
For example?
User A grows a colony from a frag and decides to break it up. After posting a picture in the database, many members become interested in the colony and send private messages asking for a frag. Each member that receives a frag and is able to grow it should go back to the database and click the button ?I have this too!?, which indicates that they have the same species in their tank. (A public list of who owns each coral will be attached to each record in the database in the near future)
If User A ever lost the colony, he or she would be able to go back to the database and find out what other members have the same coral.
Recommendations for using the database
Do not click the ?I have this too!? button if you do not have the exact coral indicated. There are literally hundreds of different colonies of each species. So not all green montiporas are the same. If you aren?t positive that your colony is the same as the listing already in the database, create a new record by clicking the ?New Coral? button.
We hope that this service is useful for identifying and tracing the different corals that are being grown all around us.
Feel free to post here if you have any questions or suggestions on how we can make this system even better.

Recommendations for using the database
- Post a well focused identifying photo of the coral as the main picture.
- Post additional photos if you have them showing the coral in different locations.
- Write a description of the coral and do your best to explain its history (i.e. I got this from vendor X). It would be helpful if you also explained how the coral has done in your tank, feeding required, lighting recommended, etc?
