Listen, it's comments like that which get people pissed off. So we are the little people not the membership? Remember without us little people MR is nothing. I was under the impression educators are suppose to empower not belittle. In any case I do enjoy this site and have learned a great deal and have contributed to the community hopefully helping some folks, I'm just getting tired of reading all this stuff, MR should turn it's attention to the members that are constantly bashing new & existing members and the people who join just to use the market place to buy and sell goods without contributing to the community at all. I understand that there have to be rules regarding the meetings held outside of the site that were put together on the site, but IMO it should just be a disclaimer that MR is not affiliated with the event (for liability reasons) and a dedicated forum for them to be set up. I'm not sure if any of the Mods have attended one of these events, they are quite remarkable, it's nice to meet the person on the other side of the keyboard and chew the fat, helping advance and propagate reef preservation as well as helping out the new and experienced members of the reefing community (how to frag, proper water parameters, getting water tested, different types of filtration etc, etc, etc). It's a damn shame that all of this debating/arguing has to go on over these events, when the solution seems to be very simple and in front of you. Banning, bashing and arguing aren't doing anything but demoralizing all involved and chasing others away.

IMO,If you guys don't like the comments being made (which you say you want) then turn around and tell the member to get back to the topic at hand (when it is on topic) MR should stop playing a dog & pony show and just throw down the rules instead of putting up these ridiculous threads and call it a day.

One other thing, If MR doesn't want its name to be part/affiliated with these outside organized events why should they have any say as to how the event is run by the organizers, after all MR isn't supplying any support (affiliation) or funds for the event? This is the part I don't understand, MR doesn't want to be affiliated (Liable) for any of these events but yet wants control over how they are run. If you can please enlighten me, I must be stupid or something.

I have no problem with following rules, I'm just saying lay down the rules and be done with it already. Doing it this way is like giving my kids a credit card and have them do their own xmas shopping. If you want input i feel it should be submitted via pm not in a open forum where the discussions are bound to raise peoples blood pressure.

I was quoting a post that is no longer on the thread. I was simply using the same term that was used, by 'little people', the person who posted it simply meant the members, not the admin. I was simply using his phrase to agree to that point. I was certainly not using it to belittle, it was a term used to describe us, the members.

The rules are to limit the websites liability and set a precedent that will limit future issues. I really think people are reading too far into this. You can do what you want and nobody is going to stop you BUT, when you post it here, it becomes MR jurisdiction and your event is then subject to MR rules and regulations. It's really that simple and I don't know why anyone is getting their blood pressure up over it.

Not only is your opinion important, but the moderators are in no way perfect and we can use the help of the entire community in drafting the document.

Well if there aren't any more nitpicking posts (like mine and some others) in the attempt to poke holes in the rules... I think they're pretty solid, if you look at it from that side of things. All the major grounds seem to be covered.

I sort of agree with InfernoST. The mods are making things difficult on themselves by having to moderate all these rules. Why not just state that any get together must be announced as a non MR sanctioned event...Caveat Emptor. The event can only be posted in the announcements forum and all selling/trading has to done in the original thread or by PM regardless of the size of the event.

So merely quoting something someone else said makes its OK, I think not. We as the membership should be referred to as such not Little people. You of all people should know it's not PC especially in these times if you make under 250K you are considered Little People in the eyes of our leaders (AKA=Politicians/government). I surely would expect more from a teacher who is suppose to be shaping the next generation to advance/lead our future.
