FIOS all day if you can get it out there. The service itself is awesome you just have to watch the way they bill you because they like to F around and charge for random things. Def go fios just keep an eye on your bill and if you have a problem whenever you call them make sure you take their name and ID # so they take you seriously and help you.

There's someone out there who has to think about it? FIOS is the hands down winner over Cablevision.

If you don't care about internet speeds or work from home remotely then I'd just go with the cheapest.

I depend on using VPN a lot so I can work from home so it's a no brainer to stay with FIOS. Their speeds are fast and consistent which Cablevision was not. I am getting 20-30Mb/s when only paying for the 15Mb/s plan.

I'm paying $120/mo though since I've been out of contract, had them for at least 4 years now. I was a long time Cablevision customer and switch when they didn't want to retain me. I tried Cablevision again to lower my bill with their $80 promo but the contractor farked up the tv and modem install and left saying it was working when it wasn't... and when I got it to work, their internet speeds was barely 3Mb/s! I'm never going back to Cablevision even if it's free! Their picture quality is crap, even their HD doesn't compare to FIOS digital! I don't have a FIOS HD box or care to pay the extra $5/mo for the box.

love my cablevision, and the speed part, really doesnt matter unless your willing to spend the money to have actual fiber optic ran from the pole and clear through your house,

FIOS is one of the worst companies I've ever had to deal with.

Terrible customer service, random monthly bills, and you can plan on using at least two sick days if something goes wrong. The first one for the appointment they'll miss, and the second for them to actually fix it... That is, unless it's an issue on their side, in which case they'll tell you that it should be fixed within 3 days... You can live without TV, phone and internet without 3 days, right?

FIOS, the product itself is great! The customer service sucks. It's a phone company afterall.

But I'm still staying with FIOS. Better video quality, better internet speed. Once you tried it, it won't ever consider cablevision again.

I hate FIOS so much I'd consider almost any alternative. I've been meaning to switch, just need to find the time to set it up.

I'll say this again... FIOS SUCKS!

Though I dislike the Dolans strongly...I've never had any issues with Cablevision, though I hear their compression for HD feeds can be poor...I am also stuck because I'm a sports fan and no MSGHD is honestly a huge deal-breaker for me... At any rate all my friends, etc. that have FIOS love it!

Torn between which service to get.

Cablevision is $30 a month. Unless you download massive amounts of porn or BT whatever, just get that.

I stream netflix/hulu/ps3 totally fine. Never lags.

Fios is a waste of money for the average user. They just have good marketing to make you think you need that much bandwidth for no real reason. Most people dont know exactly how much bandwidth they use. They just assume fios is better because they dont know any better, they just see higher numbers and assume its faster. Loading a webpage on a 1mbit connection takes the SAME amount of time as on a 100mbit connect. Bandwidth is measured in throughput, not speed. If youre downloading porn, downloading a massive file, VPNing whereever and playing PS3 at the exact same time, then maybe you'll see some lag on a Cable vision cheap plan.

Average Joe Idiot isn't running a massive FTP dump server or anything more than netflix on their pc. If i have $80 a month to blow on a bloated bandwidth line, i would go fios. If you want to surf the web, play games, or watch netflix, get cable vision

My wife is a fios customer rep for verizon. She sells to businesses only but our best friend does residential. I know she can hook you up with a really nice deal. She can offer you a package that no one else can if I refer you to her.

You will not be disappointed in fios. And if you are at all you have 30 days to cancel.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

Fios here, but from what I hear it really depends on where you are. Out here on the island where I am there are no contracts and after all is said and done it's about $100 a month for the middle package I believe. I don't get every channel known to man but the HD is gret and the internet is super fast. 2 computers a laptop and a netbook the TV and a PS3. My GF complains of lag rarely on her netbook but I think it's more her netbook than the system to be honest.

Never had any issues with the service, the guy came to install it and was honest about there already being a line from fios into my apartment from a previous tennant so I didn't have to pay the fee to have one installed although he did take most of the day to complete it anyway. Don't really have any complaints.

i have time warner for at least 10 years. with the exception of dvr box crapping out 2x, about half dozen outages (less than 15 min). not bad considering the length of time. however how reliable your services are depends a lot on your area.
are there anyone in forest hills queens having any problems with time warner?

I just got rid of FIOS.
I had Fios for about 2 1/2 years, never warmed up to it for a variety of reasons.
It took an entire day for them to install it and their battery back up clogs up a receptacle permanently. The battery in the unit is also only guaranteed for a year - after that time YOU have to pay for the replacement battery ($100).
(the only upside was the dead battery makes an awesome door-stop..lol)

Their rates are awful if you have a 2nd phone line in your home (basic no frills on the 2nd phone line cost me $61 a month with Fios).

Twice they had to come and change the huge box on the side of my home (the tech spend the ENTIRE time yakking on a personal cell phone)
They also had to replace the box used on my most watched TV 3 times over the 2 1/2 years.

The thing that probably bugged me the most was the big ohhh-ahhh crap about the fiber optics...well...fiber optics to the POLE outside of my home, but they used the same tired old copper cables inside of the house that were originally installed by Cablevision.
I will say there was less minor interference on the phone lines when the weather was extremely rainy, but aside from that I saw no difference in the services.

When I called Verizon to tell them I was leaving they first offered to save me $10 a month, and when I said no, they offered me $20 off per month (I suggest anyone call them & threaten to leave and you will also probably get made an offer... :) )
That was still not enough for me to make a difference.

So I finally got rid of them and just went back to Cablevision (lesser of 2 evils IMO), I got the 'boost' package with the quicker internet speeds ( NO less quick that Verizon was even with 3 or 4 computers running here at the same time) and that service includes the wireless router)

While I had FIOS I got 2 new HD TV's and the picture is 100% BETTER with Cablevision..and no, none of the interior wiring was changed when Cablevision did the installation 2 weeks ago.

I am stuck with the stupid Verizon box on the outside of my home and the instructions state that is now a permanent part of my home, nor to they take back the battery back up thing and I have no idea how to disconnect it. (Cablevision does offer a battery back up system of their own - if you pay for it - it is about $100, but I decided to forgo that since I have a whole house generator and we all have cell phones here)

..and happy I have my News12 back :) Can't stand what they consider news on the major stations and tried of hearing so much about New Jersey....

did I mention that I am saving $100 a month over Verizon and their inflated pricing? :)

..my 2 cents on the debate :)

I had Fios twice and got rid of it twice to get Cablevision back. They ran a special and converted about 10 houses on my block and every house except one went back to cablevision. My neighbor just had it re-installed last week and is now switching back to cablevision already. Not even a full week lol. I guess it depends on where you are at. I know Fios is supposed to be super fast with the internet but it was as slow as a snail when I tried to use the comp. Cablevision just gets up and goes.
