Im using your numbers.of DOA/DAA......not mine.......Three million fish are exported per year from PI........60 percent are damsels and clownfish ........... 1.7 million damsels and clownfish are exported/colletced from 25,000 square kilometers of municipal waters.........that is 70 damsels per kilometer2 ...this combined with YOUR doa/daa factor {only one out of ten survive to be exported}.would lead one to assume...that 17 million clownfish and damsels are killed or removed from the reefs to export the 1.7 millionPeterIMA":3r7kiziq said:Kalk, It is not impossible. You forgot that the densities in the zones vary. They are higher than 500 fish per square kiliometer in the fair, good, and excellent categories. I asked you to start with the numbers posted on the PCSD site (some of which I posted about a week ago). Then, carry out the extrapolations.
You stated that 80 million aquarium fish are killed so that 3 million can be exported. That is your extrapolation. If you are right, there is no reason to have an aquarium fish export trade from the Philippines (or anywhere cyanide fishing is practiced).

....with 2000 fish types in th reefs of PI ..................how many total fish per kilometer2 would there need to be for there to be seven hundred damsels and clownfish mixed within the other fish ? {17millin divided by 25,000=700.....You have suggested anywhere from 500 to 10,000.fish per square kilometer....But both of those numbers would be much too few ? ....If the few fish types we collect from the reefs represent five percent of all the fish on the reefs {its closer to one percent.}.would this mean 14,000 fish per kilometersquare.....? ...and how many damsels and clownfish would there need to be for our collectors to collect seven hundred per year......if we collct 50% of all the damsels and clownfish from the intire Country {doubtful} each year that would put the total number of damsels and clownfish at 35million and damsels making up five percent of the total fish population,,,,,,,,,the total fish population would work out to 700million minimum........Or 28,000 fish per square kilometer?.........
