I purchased a glass 75 gal tank, 48x18x21 for deliver to White Plains this past Saturday. The tank had one overflow about 12" in from the left side and was drilled with a 1.5" drain and 1" return in the overflow. I also ordered the overflow covers from them.
I picked up the tank this past...
Its installed right side up, because when the sump level gets high enough it does close it off. I mean really high, a good 6 - 8" above the highest position of the float valve. I'm gonna give Kent a call and also try that styro thing. Thx for your help.
I've got a problem with my Kent float valve. I've got a maxima RO/DI and I have the Kent float valve kit. I installed the floatvalve in my sump and hooked up the ro/di to it. The problem is that the float valve doesn't stop the water from entering the sump. It keeps going, and my sump over...
Oh...they have acros in now. I may have to make another trip over there. Last I was there, they had just put the clam in and were setting up the tanks.
When I get back to school, my 10gal is gonna house a bubble tip, a mated pair of clowns and maybe a clam or two. It is going to be open topped with a 175w 10k halide, and I also have a sump that brings the total volume to about 20g.
I'd add some kind of mechanical filtration for a few days after you kick it up. You could add a skimmer now tho, I don't understand why not. Stuff covering the sand and rock is bad cause it hinders exchange with the tank water. You could also try vacuuming some of it in your next water...
I used to have a 3" Niger in my reef a few years ago. It didn't harm anything including snails, crabs or shrimp. I was actually really surprised by it.
I think the overflow holes in a closed loop system have to be underwater, or there is the chance that air will be sucked in and at the worst make the pump run dry enough that it breaks. At the least, you'd get a bunch of tiny air bubbles in the tank from it being chopped by the impeller. That...
The reason people use closed loop is because its possible that your overflows can't handle the extra water being pushed through them. If you're overflow is rated for 1000gph, then adding 2 AmpMaster 3ks is going to end in a mess. Instead people just use closed loop.
I'm gonna set it up right at school. I already left the tank and equipment up there from last year, I just gotta rig the halide to hang so I don't boil my water then cycle.
I'm starting to plan what I want to do with my tank at college this year. Here is my idea so far. I wanted to make an anemone species tank, maybe put some clams in it. I replaced the lighting on my 75 with 400s, so I have an extra 175watt halide that I am gonna bring up with me to school...
I have a tank mount from an old rio 1700. The part that clips it on to the side of the tank over the frame. I use that with a rubberband to attach my nori for my tangs. I also give them formula 2 flakes and they snatch up brine shrimp when I feed the tank frozen food. I don't soak the nori...
