  1. where to buy tank...

There is a guy in Tennessee that makes tanks. They always go to reptile shows. I am in NC and he comes to the Raleigh reptile show in the spring and fall. He travels througout the Southeastern US and Has good prices. I forget their name but they are on the web. I will try to remember.
  2. External Overflows

I just got back from Lowes and boought a Dremel for $79 with all the bits. I figured out the only design flaw with what I posted earlier is the problem with using siphons for taking the water out of the tank down to the sump. My solution will be to use a small pump in the overflow box to move...
  3. External Overflows

I am ready to add two overflows to two tanks also. My plan is to add overflow boxes on the inside of the tank and add siphons over the top to the refugia below. This should be the same as any filter that uses a siphon. By using an overflow box you restrict the amount of "problems" that can...
  4. articles by terry

Terry: I'd like to add that I too love to feed my fish soo much that I continue to cause my own problems. First it was the tank with healthy fish, eating everythin I put in, then I start feeding nori, and they love that so much I feed them some of that everyday. Then I turn around one day and...
  5. Are all wondering bubble-tips white

Zero hits! It's a fair hypothesis. Sorry its not about cheep sand or how small my tang aquarium is.
  6. Are all wondering bubble-tips white

Just a theory, but I know this is an issue for many who have bubble-tip anenome- they wonder around the tank causing trouble. I have had three and the only one that has wondered is a white one. The theory is that it has lost its zooxanthellae and doesn't quite realize that the loss of...
  7. Disease?

I'd have to say that it is a fungus. I went through some similar symptoms. My mistake was to take the fish out and put them into a hospital tank. I'd recommend a fungal treatment that is reef safe. Seachem has a few of these that are sold in little tubes. One, Metronidazole cleared up this...
  8. You know your addicted when............

When you loose your job of 12 years on Monday but what really gets you bummed is your Majestic angel has a fungus and dies dispite numerous cures attempted  .
  9. Yellow tang w/cloudy eyes...freshwater dip? Formalin dip?

Chip: I am going through a bit of a fish nightmare that all started out with cloudy eyes- on my Majestic Angel. Moved my Angels into a larger new tank recently- things were fine for a month. Cloudy eyes, lack of color, I had to do something. So the Majestic, a coral beauty, and a singapore...
  10. Home Depot power compacts

I have one and the 27 watt number is right-on. Got it at wal mart. Got it to play with, utility light, but I bet on a 10 gallon nano it would be much better than any other simple/cheep solution. Refugium too.
  11. Clowns won't mate!!

My Maroons also just spawned- eggs at least. I have had them for about 18 months. I also just got "Clownfishes" and it is a good book. Good luck and be patient. After all, they can live 15 to 20 years if you have the luck to keep a stable system! Dave
  12. My Maroon Clowns have laid eggs... now what?

Kevin: Thanks, It does sound complicated and I ordered the clownfishes book today. Great to know that this is not a once in a great while opportunity! I know that in time, I will try to rear them. After all, that's what this hobby seems to be about... the challenges of it all. Thanks for...
  13. My Maroon Clowns have laid eggs... now what?

I noticed last night about 50 eggs nearby my maroon clowns. I do not have a clown book and any insights on getting the fry/larvae to survive would be helpfull. They are in a 72 gallon bow-front tank, 150 pounds of rock, lots of zooplankton, phytoplankton, and I have DT's phyto in the fridge...
  14. It's almost time to move the tank. IT'S MOVED!

I have done similar. I would add: 1) place live rock in with your fish overnight to maintain filtering. 2) place air stones in each bucket with any liive stock 3) place heaters in any bucket with fish. I kept numerous fish just fine for 4-5 days in 5 gallon buckets with live rock, air and...
  15. Southdomwn and Yardright in Houston

Thinhvu: What you are looking for is "tropical play sand" that has been sterilized. I have had Southdown and really this is all it is. Go to a smaller greenhouse, plant, feed supply store and ask if they have tropical play sand. Souther States Coop, here in the carolinas carries it and...
