J Frank Glass on Clyborn and Fullerton is in the city and they drilled my tank. They actually cracked my 55, because it was a tempered glass panel. But they glued in a new panel with a hole in it. It was pretty cheap too. $15-20.
Last year I decided to convert my 3 years old FOWLR to a reef. After a successful battle with green hair algae last March, I vowed to let my tank stabilize for 1 year before I started to add corals. I spent the last 10 months reading and researching deciding on how I would like my tank to look...
I have a 110 clarity plus acryllic tank 59x24x18 . I love the seemless look of it not to mention it is very light compared to glass. The tank is around 4 years old and has worn OK. Despite my best efforts to clean the front of the tank with acryllic safe pads and the kent proscraper there are...
I am going through a strange cyano cycle. Well maybe more routine than strange. I have tested my pre and post ro/di water. I have .6 phosphate and 1 silicon oxide going in and 0 phosphate and .5 silicon oxide coming out.
My prefilters are at least a year old and I know i should replace them...
I run a MAG 12 on a closed loop. The pump is external and below the water line as well. The in/out tubing is both 3/4" and travels 3' before and after the pump. I haven't had any problems with this at all. I dont believe youll have significant restircition even with 4' of tubing. The pump feels...
hi
"j frank" on fullerton and clyborn. They drilled my old 55 sump for me. I wanted the side glass drilled for the return bulkhead. It turned out that the glass was tempered because the tank was 11 years old. It blew up. But they cut a new piece of glass predrilled and glued it in for me...
thanks for the advice. I think I am leaning toward getting a new pump as suggested. Im still toying with the idea of "wye" ing off part of the return to power the skimmer. This might help cut down heat in the tank from a sub pump and the cost of running one.
I really didnt mean to offend...
i use blue rope lights...it works great. cheap too. I wanted to use xmas lights but I did this in the summer. I figured the advantage of xmas lights would be the ability to pull bulbs for a dimmer or brighter effect...
Happy night viewing.
I have an ev-150 powered by a rio 3100. The rio is 3 years old and has recently produced sporadic performance. Sometimes the flow rate reduces so much that the level of water in the skimmer drops 2 inches. After I clean the pump it works fine. Im uncertain if the cleaning helps or if the time...
I recently got a clean up crew from Reeftopia. I purchased snails, peppermint shrimp and crabs. I selected a variety of snails. All said a month after acclimation the more variety the better. In the past I just got plain Astrae turbo snails. With this last more educated decision I mixed it up...
I just got back from Oahu. What a blast. I'm one crappy fisherman so I don't do it. However I was up on the North Shore snorkelling. As you will be up there fishing in that neighborhood I figured I would hip you to some of my favs.
If you fish past Waimea off the tidepools between 3 Tables and...
I need to stock my tank with additional snails and various clean up critters (emerald crab, peppermint shrimp, cucs, conchs). I live in Chicago and have seen most of these items sold in LFSs. However the prices of online companies cannot be beat by any of the LFSs.
Is it worth paying the...
I second the chiller. I bought one 18 months ago for my 160 gal system. It keeps the temp stable throughout the summer. The peace of mind is worth it if you are in it for the long haul. I live in a condo where the AC units just can't compete with a western exposure and the heat and humidity of...
I purchased a Medusa Dual Stage Controller when I bought my chiller. I had a problem with the temp probe. I think it was miscalibrated at the factory to about 4-5 degrees higher than actual temperature. This caused my chiller to run every hour year round. I finally put a second thermometer in...
