  1. Power Outages = Dead Reef?

Dewman, What I would do is go buy a UPS for a computer as use it to power a powerhead or two inside the system. That should provide you with enough flow to handle gas exchange. As for keeping your tank warm, just get wrap it in a blanket for the duration of the outage.
  2. My 220g after 3months PICS

Nice aquascaping. What kind of LR did you use?
  3. Bryopsis sp. Alage

Just reach in there and manually harvest it. It comes off very easily. Don't harvest all of it though, leave some in the tank so you can harvest it periodically for nutrient export.
  4. Whats wrong with this tank?

"PFO MH 400w 6500k 1:30am - 8:00pm" That's a long photo-cycle. Most people I know only keep their MH's on for 12 hours max. Also, you mention the addition of Dead Rock. What kind of rock did you use for this?
  5. Lighting Question

Hello, I'm getting back into the hobby after a four year hiatus, and have a couple questions regarding what the new standards for lighting are. 6. So Frustrated...Algae problems

I've been out of the hobby for about 3 years, but I encountered the very same problem in my 29G Reef. This stuff is a pest. Here's what I did to remove it: 1. Phosphate remover 24/7. 2. I manually scrubbed all my rocks in a bucket to remove the algae/diatom bloom (it looks almost like you...
  7. Does ich spread on its own?

Hi Chip, Evacuate the infected fish to a quarntine tank. I just recently got back into the hobby after a three year hiatus, but I do know for a fact that ick is highly contagious and can wipe out your fish population very quickly. I'm not sure if there's been breakthroughs in ick treatment...
  8. Metal Halide Bases

Hi! I'm currently working on a 55 gallon reef setup and would like to use two 150 watt Iwasaki's with two 96 watt compact atinics. Here's the key questions: 1. I am under the impressions that the Iwasaki's will run off a 175 watt ballast. Correct me if I'm wrong please. 2. They require a...
