I am reading Give Me Liberty: A Handbook for American Revolutionaries by Naomi Wolf
I just watched an
interview given by Naomi Wolf regarding some of the points she makes in the Hanbook.
She says that "ordinary people are supposed to run things." I completely agree. Unfortunately, as long as they can buy a flat screen TV with their credit card, many ordinary people are content to let others take care of them. Some individuals are happy to trade civil liberties for as many entitlement programs as they can get. The fact that the democratic health care platform forces you to get health insurance really irritates me. People are willing to trade their right to choose for an opportunity to get health care that is not even free. I thought the Dems were pro choice;-)
Another of her talking points was rule of law. We
saw rule of law being openly violated in a small way when the Senate passed TARP as an act before the House passed it as a bill. Congress created a sense of urgency by doing things out of order instead of progressing in a controlled and orderly fashion. The markets had actually started recovering after the House turned the bill down. Something had to be done, so the Senate stepped in to keep the drama level high and the markets turbulent. Congressman Brad Sherman even stated that some members of the house were threatened with
martial law if they did not pass the bill.
Other examples of the opression of the rule of law that were given were the Patriot act and the deployment of a batallion of troops by the president inside the US to keep order during the election. There was also some talk about the warriors creed being "updated" so that troops declare their loyalty to the commander in chief rather than the constitution. I am not sure of this and have not researched it.
Naomi Wolf repeatedly stated that the president and any others who participated in "this" should be arrested. What is "this"? The bailout or the patriot act? Anyway, the president will be gone in soon. How much ability or desire will a new president have to get us back to being a republic which holds life and liberty sacred? How much desire will individuals have to give up their flat screens and find out what the heck is really going on?
All of these issues get me so worked up that I want to run for office. Unfortunately, I look like Sarah Palin and I don't want Tina Fey making fun of me
