Listen Politics is nothing but legalized organized crime.
A further thought for the conspiracy theorists; The market meltdown is actually the Govt's way of patching the social security system - Think about it, your 401k has just lost 30-40% of its value therefore you must work for 5-10 years beyond your target retirement date. You are now contributing to S.S. for those additional years - multiply that by 10-20 million workers and you got some serious $ coming in...... HOLD IT - my coral beauty looks hungry - I have more important things to take care of, GTG

I'd be interested in a Libertarian Book Club. Right now I am reading Give Me Liberty: A Handbook for American Revolutionaries by Naomi Wolf. I also recently joined the Laissez-Faire Books mailing list.

I for one have only one opinion,

If you don't vote, you should not complain about the state of things.

Regardless of whom you vote for or what your reasons are for voting for that person. the point is that you took the time to vote for what you believe is the right choice for you and yours.

I am reading Give Me Liberty: A Handbook for American Revolutionaries by Naomi Wolf

I just watched an interview given by Naomi Wolf regarding some of the points she makes in the Hanbook.

She says that "ordinary people are supposed to run things." I completely agree. Unfortunately, as long as they can buy a flat screen TV with their credit card, many ordinary people are content to let others take care of them. Some individuals are happy to trade civil liberties for as many entitlement programs as they can get. The fact that the democratic health care platform forces you to get health insurance really irritates me. People are willing to trade their right to choose for an opportunity to get health care that is not even free. I thought the Dems were pro choice;-)

Another of her talking points was rule of law. We saw rule of law being openly violated in a small way when the Senate passed TARP as an act before the House passed it as a bill. Congress created a sense of urgency by doing things out of order instead of progressing in a controlled and orderly fashion. The markets had actually started recovering after the House turned the bill down. Something had to be done, so the Senate stepped in to keep the drama level high and the markets turbulent. Congressman Brad Sherman even stated that some members of the house were threatened with martial law if they did not pass the bill.

Other examples of the opression of the rule of law that were given were the Patriot act and the deployment of a batallion of troops by the president inside the US to keep order during the election. There was also some talk about the warriors creed being "updated" so that troops declare their loyalty to the commander in chief rather than the constitution. I am not sure of this and have not researched it.

Naomi Wolf repeatedly stated that the president and any others who participated in "this" should be arrested. What is "this"? The bailout or the patriot act? Anyway, the president will be gone in soon. How much ability or desire will a new president have to get us back to being a republic which holds life and liberty sacred? How much desire will individuals have to give up their flat screens and find out what the heck is really going on?

All of these issues get me so worked up that I want to run for office. Unfortunately, I look like Sarah Palin and I don't want Tina Fey making fun of me :)

No disrespect to anyone's political inclinations, but this thread is not the place for detailed ruminations on any single political philosophy. It leaves those that disagree with no choices other than ignoring the thread, or responding in equal detail and that kind of exchange is not appropriate for this forum in my opinion.

I could easily write pages about my political inclinations and it most certainly would piss off a lot of other people. But I won't because it is not appropriate.

I never understood why anyone would get "pissed off" about someone else's political views, unless of course you are insulting others, which wouldn't technically be considered a political view.

Maybe that is why I am a Libertarian convert now!

comments MUST be related to the hobby

Sorry, I lost track of the #1 post

I think John McCain looks like a cute little crab the way he scuttles around at the debates and I agree that Obama could lend a strong arm for water changes:)

You are 100% correct. Posse comitatus as well as the Fourth Amendment are both dead. Sherman's story was confirmed by many...

Oops! Back to reef stuff.
I just added an incredible Peppermint Hog and Potters Leopard Wrasse to my reef. Pics to follow.

No fun big gun = a job that pays a living wage and public works to fund that job = more funds for your tank
or
No job = more time to play with your tank = need for big fun gun to protect your tank when the come to take your home

you do have a tough choice

I highly doubt anyone would lose unions jobs under McCain, but there will definitely be new "common sense" (as they like to say...) gun legislation taking guns out of law-abiding citizens hands. I don't care either way, because my guns aren't going anywhere because of my profession, but other people should be scared.
