most likely the end of this month. where do you get your lumber?locally?

i guess i can have my friend drive me to home depot in the bx. then i can have the materials ready.

shouldn't a piece of 1in X 12in X 8ft be enough?

all you need is a 4ft piece for the front and 2- 2ft pieces for the sides. am i missing something?

i was thinking of leaving the top and back open. all i need on the top is a thin piece of wood something that would allow me to screw the lights onto it. sort of like kris' 2nd pic.

Yup its the very airred out look. I get my lumber at Lowes and HD. Both of them are within a few blocks of my house.

You'll need 1 piece of 1x 12 x 8ft.
You'll need 1 piece of 2 x 2 x 8ft
And 1 piece of 1 x 6 x 6ft

Kris, that canopy looks familiar....wonder where your inspiration came from :)
I"d add some more tensile strength at the top. Your cross brace that holds the two side pieces together, what is it made of? How did you afix it? I'd add another, maybe out of 1x3. Maybe one on the back as well. Also for a 4 foot tank you need more then an 8 foot board. The saw blade is 1/8" so if you cut an 8 foot board down the exact middle you're left with two pieces @ 3 feet 11 15/16 of an inch.

I'm making a canopy tomorrow out of 1x3 and cheap ghetto ass 1/2 birch finish plywood. I'm going to use magnet snaps on the front panel and probably a hinge. I'll post pics once it's up. Definietly try to make your own it's fun. All you really need is to borrow a circ saw and a scew gun from someone. Lots of plans on the internet as well.

yesterday i contacted the hotel where i stayed during my vaca and no one turned in my digital cam batt and charger. this thread will most likely be pic-less. i don't have the money for a new cam and there is no way i'm gonna take pics w/ my 35mm and get the pics developed.

i may be able to use my cam phone but i need to find the program.

went home for lunch and just couldn't keep looking @ the tank w/o doing anything. so i got my dremel and made a circular cut on the top of the stand where the overflow will be. once i did that i encountered a small problem which i already knew. the legs of the stand sit inside the stands frame. i will have to remove them, cut them to size and then position them right under the frame. why? because one of the legs blocks a bulkhead. this is no big deal. just some minor modifications.

i've also decided this tank will go in my room. i can't believe i'm gonna do such a thing. it's going in the exact location where my 40br and 30xh are currently.

while looking @ the sump i'm gonna use, i thought about the current sump set up and decided it would be best to fmake the fuge bigger and the return smaller. i'll just replace one of the baffles. i'll remove the one furthest to the right and glue it on the left side of the other two baffles. plus this way i'll have the water go under-over-under which is what i want.

i'll see if i can jack one, mike.

i'm not sure yet on how to do the rockworck. the overflow sits on the back left. i don't know if i should
-cover up the overflow and then have it decend towards the right
or
-have the peak @ the right and decend towards the left, leaving the overflow exposed
or
-have a big pile in the middle leaving room fo the fishies to swim around the rockwork

last night i took the whole stand apart. the legs had been screwed on the inside part of the stand. i've decided to screw them on the outside.

man i need a camera badly. this thread sucks without pics.

i have absolutely no idea how i'm gonna set up this 90 and move three other tanks. it will surely be a long weekend whenever i decide to go ahead w/ it.

i put the stand back together and i'm not really happy w/ it's sturdiness. since i put the legs on the outside the stand sways a little. not something i feel comfortable w/. especially having 1000+ pounds on top of it. my guess is when i put the sides and back it will be stronger. not sure if i want to put a back on it, i kinda would like the back open. but due to it being weak i may have to.

hopefully i'll have pics up tonight. my father is bringing this little POS camera from work. @ least you guys will see something. i hope

here's a pic of the tank and stand. i put the plumbing together to see how i would have to set up my sump. the plumbing is the reverse of how my sump is set up. i'll just have to reverse the sump so the drain goes on the left and the return on the right.
