Kris, if you're going to glue the exterior on the frame don't paint it. (where you're going to glue)

For the outside, stain the wood what color you want, then use any exterior sealant. I use clear spar urethane. poly is mostly for interior. You want something exterior.

Put on a coat, sand, use a tack rag to lift off the dirt, and repeat 3 or more times. My stand had 4 coats on it if I remember correctly.

B

For sanding, just use plain old sand paper right and lightly go over the entire stand?

Hey Kris. Looking good man. Nice piece of DIY.

When you sand the spar polyeurethane, use about 220 grit sandpaper. Yes, it's just regular sandpaper, just a very fine grit. Then the tack cloth will remove the 'dust'.

Thanks Russ :D. Got ya for the sandpaper part. I've been getting up early just to head to Lowes so I can work on the stand. Canopy is todays project, as well as, covering all the screw with a little wood filler.

Finally an update. First off gotta say Thanks a million time to Brett, came by and helped me get my tank into working order. He helped me extend my bulkhead holes so they would fit 1.5inch bulkheads snug. He also made me an overflow box for the tank.

On with the pics of everything. Box has to get silicone in place in the morning.
