Everything has been doing well and growing fast. Hopefully soon this tank will finally be grown out. I decided to add sand to the tank since I didn't have much live rock. The theory behind my decision to add sand was to create more surface are for bacteria to grow. I have no idea if this is going to help but it can't hurt:shhh:

I would never go with a DSB again. It is far too difficult to keep your water pristine for SPS. I am a fan of BB tanks and I would reccomend that type of setup for SPS. My main concern was that since I don't have much rock in the tank, I don't have enough area for nitryifing bacteria to grow. I was going to add a remote sandbed/refugium but I didn't feel like plumbing anything. It was easier to pour in some sand.
I only added 25lbs of carrib sead reef-flor sand to give me 1" of sand. IMO it still functions like a BB since I can blast off any ditritus and not create a sandstorm.

There are two people that I would have never thought would ever go back to sand. Andres and Rich. First the beckett and then the BB went.

At least you are back to SPS pimp :D Looks good dude. Come by for a beer or ten. I have all your old pics.

I see your following the trend of a SSB ;)

At least we have the best of both worlds.

A BB-SBB.

You might want to try the remote sandbed.

The fuge/DSB in my sump could be responsible for my
No3 being 0. Don't be lazy, grab a bucket and try it out, lol.

Sand or no sand, the tank looks sweet. It's just that now it Really looks like a reef!
