i used about 2 inches of sugar sized aragonite. i threw in 1-40 pound bag of packaged "live sand" for the heck of it.

some new frags. got them from "fraggle reef". the fedex delivery was 4 hours late, but i don't think the DOA's would have been alive even if it was on time. i immediately sent a picture explaining the DOA, but haven't heard a word since. funny thing was, when i was placing the order, i got emails back and forth one after the other :?

anyway...here's a tiny rainbow monti, which made it-

fraggle reef gave me credit. store credit. i don't know when i'll be making another purchase, but, atleast he honored his terms of sale.

i'm getting a strange slime coat on the sand bed. i took some pics of this and that...but pay close attention to the sand bed. it's like red slime, but it's much darker. any ideas?

Nice tank, X! It's been awhile since I've updated my build thread. I hope to later this week, though.

Nice livestock, too! I wish I could find a nice rainbow monti around here.

The slime coating on the bottom looks like the standard red slime algae starting to creep in. It grows FAST! The only way to manage it seems to be get rid of as much PO4 and NO3 as possible and keep it near zero. Your heavy feeding regimen may be suspect. I am currently battling a wave of slime myself. Did you ever switch to RODI water?

Thanks for the pics!! Love that open rock work.

hey! yes, i've been using RODI, and i'm glad to hear it's run-of-the-mill cyano! i'm used to the real red stuff, and this dark brown/blackish variation kinda spooked me a bit.

BTW- 2 awesome guys from the delaware valley reef club came by tonight and helped me evict that clown tang. thanks Krikor and Joey! you saved me alot of aggravation! i hope you like the frags, and if i can do anything for you, just say the word

thanks for the thumbs up guys, and Frank, i sent you that link to the acrylic rods. have fun drilling your rock :)

i have a clown tang which should be in an aggressive fish only tank, if anyone needs one

update:
i have recently removed all the AquarMckzo lamps and i wasn't sure what bulbs to replace them with, so i tried 3 different ones.
the 3 bulbs are from left to right- reeflux 12k, ushio 14k, and hamilton 14k.

so far, without letting them burn in, i like the looks of the hamilton lamp the best. the ushio has the best PAR, but i don't think it does the tank justice. plus, the corals are not liking the new, extremely powerful light.

some zoos are melting away, and some acros started to lose color, until i relocated them to the sand bed. and this is with a 1/2 the time photo period. i have since raised the bulbs up to almost 2 feet above the water surface. we'll see how it goes.

meanwhile i snapped a couple pics of the tank and a couple new frags i got from "that fish place" in lancaster, pa.
i had trouble getting true color to show up in the tank pics. i hope you can get the general idea...

this was sold to me as a purple superman-

and this, as a pokerstar monti(teal base with greenish polyps)

and lastly, a nice 2 tone green echino-

Man, you've got a lot of corals! :)

It's hard to tell with these pictures, but from what I see, I like the Ushio side as well as the Hamilton.

Very Nice setup,Mr X.

Looks great.:D As for some corals closing up, it takes them awhile to adjust to the new stronger lighting, a week or two. they'll also have deeper and more vibrant colors when they do.

As a personal opinion, I prefer the Ushio color temp better.

Ps: first post after over a year lurking.
