Hey Mark, did you see this post by Premium Aquatics :http://www.reefs.org/forums/topic161226.html

You might want to give them a call and see if they'll had pick some nice pieces for you.

I think got some had picked pieces from them years ago when I set up my 300. It was Marshall Island rock. That was the rage then. I'm 90% sure it was them. I called them, told them the size/shapes I was looking for. They described what they had in those size ranges and we agreed on what I'd buy. Give 'em a call.

I had a bad purchase last time round with my live rock- what was supposed to be premium Fiji, was in essence dead base rock. I did manage to supplement with some "Real Reef Rock"(man made stuff, if I was to start completely over, I'd go that route with all the rock - it comes in a Fiji like shapes, Shelfs, and Tonga style branches now)

I sometimes forget about my RO/DI cause its in the basement, but floods arent a problem cause I transport my water in a 5 gallon bucket- which sits in the wash basin while it fills...so if I forget, it just goes down the drain(sucks as its a waste, but at least nothing is damaged anymore) - ATO is done via a Tsunami(vacuum style switch) and an Aqualifter pump. if it sticks on, most my tank will drop salinity wise is 4 points, and it'll still be no lower than 1.20/1.19

I just ordered 25 lbs of Fiji rock from premium aquatics. They are going to pick out 4 pieces in the 6-8 lb range for me. I should have them on Thursday. That will put me at about 46 lbs total, which should be enough for what I want. The large pieces should give a nice sized scape with lots of open space. The other 60 cube I put together had lots of small pieces and it just looked like a pile of rocks, which I did not like.

Just a little update. Got the rocks in the tank and working on cleaning up the little bit of die off. My parents gave us some money for easter so I was able to order my lights today. I got the AI-Hydra 52, black. Since I got cured rock it should not take to long before I can start putting stuff in the tank. I would take pics, but since I do not have lights they would not show much.

I got my light, it is bright wow. I was sent the wrong mounting hardware so I have to wait to mount it until I can get it exchanged. So instead of light today, it will more than likely be next week.

Two questions.

1. How many SPS frags should I acquire with the goal of having softball or larger sized colinies. I am thinking 20, give or take.

2. What is the current thinking on temp?

I got the AI Director, a vortex MP10, heater and an algae magnet on the way. Getting close to all the hardware. I think I am ready for a living thing or two.

Got the new stuff installed and found some local frags here in town. Going to pick up a few things on Friday.

I tried the lightning setting on the director. Cool thing, but really annoying so not a feature I am going to use. I turned on the clouds at 20% probability and 50% intensity. I also have the lunar setting on. I though about using the local weather but I want to make sure my tank gets 12 hours of light a day year round. The coontol is cool and the coral acclimation ramp is going to be useful. Going to fine tune the setting over time so I am open to suggestions.

I am running the white and blues at 100% and everything else at 80% for the day setting. For the night setting I am running just the blues at 5%

does your controller have moon phase as well? with my ReefAngel, I was able to not only set Sunrise and Sunset, but the light intensity is on a parabolic arc to simulate increasing and decreasing light intensity through the day(High Noon is true 100% power) nad my moonlights are set to increase and decrease in intensity according to the phase of the moon(new moon=complete dark, full moon=moonlights at 100%, etc...)

It does, I just need to make sure I got it set up correctly. I have mine running on a 2 hour ramp up, 8 hour full power, 2 hour ramp down. The lunar cycle is supposed to work with any colors you have set in the 5%-10% night range.

I think so. I like the coral acclimation funtion. I am using it now with a 70% reduction, one month ramp up, so I do not have a massive algae bloom before I get snails and what not.

Speaking of snails I could not help myself and stopped by the LFS on my way home for lunch and got 3 snails. 1 turbo, 1 asteria and 1 margarita. I got critters in my tank. Everything was looking good so I figured why not.

Looks good Waz. I am debating the same size and style tank. I was originally looking for a 90 cube but I think a 60 is a better fit. If my old 90 survives the move (this will be the 4th move it has made in a crate) I may just set it back up, but I really like the cubes. Very nice clean looking setup you have.

I am so excited. I am going to pick up a few frags from a local reefer today after work.

Thanks. This one is turning out so much better than the last 60 cube I tried. The only thing I am going to end up building is a bench to hide my top off container, control units and the power cords. I decided I did not want any of that under the stand this time. Right now the top off bucket sits on the floor next to the tank and the power strips and controlers are on our blanket basket next to the bucket. I am going to taking in part of our attic to build Evan a walk-in closet later this summer so when I have my wood working tools out I will build the bench then.

Good luck with the move.

I got my frags. A green slimer, garf bonsai, pink birds nest and a teal SPS. Will post some pics later my sister has my camera rig. Hers was giving her trouble so she borrowed mine.
