hehhe josh ty i'll take that as a compliment =D
you know the idea of a sump was to expand water amount and add equipment. Lately i have found im able to do that with a super large skimmer and my equipment in my overflow and a powerhead circulating between the tank and the overflow space. I just got tired of plumbing, fancy stuff and most of all saltcreep! Everyone of my tanks had alittle of that. This tank 100percent internal. 0 splashing which is awsome. thanks guys im gonna post more pics on what i did with overflow etc.. in like few hr and my bionic doser that im gonna try to use.

Whooly Dave!! Its so damn clear! That skimmer you made is kickin some serious a$$ dude!!. I cant believe that you have only half the T5s running. When I saw the pic I thought you were running halides. What is the color spectrum on those things? I really like the color. Looking forward to seeing your tank stocked up dude!!! Merry Christmas!!!

ty herman i like the skimmer too right now it's running at half power and i didnt even add in the extra 10LPM luft pump to the port yet. yeah electric bills =/ T-5s are my budget for now only 120 watt running the tank right now. It's 3 11K aquabluespecial and 1 blue plus. The color of the first pic was 1 blue plus and 1 11K

guys the reason why the t-5s seem so bright is my filtration is so strong, nearly all the light is making it through the water coloumn. Jung these bulbs are not that new they came with the fixture which was used by someone i bought it from. The skimmer is really doing a really great job at clearing up stuff.

D can you post a list of the exact pieces of plumbing you need to mod the skimmer.

also where did you get the air valve, and which one are you going to upgrade to.

why don't you need the air valve, and what would be different.

I'm asking because I'm going to be making the skimmers soon.

making "the" skimmer as in the original plan we had? there are numbers or reasons behind it dood, one you can have a airvalve at the end on the line where air goes in, second you do not want to adjust air under the water or anywhere near those 90 degrees. god forbid you used force and break the valve or the connection "glue" to the valve

Dave, please take no offense, but if I gave scientific explainations like you give DIY ones I would get no end of grief from people for being vague. DIY is not my speciality but would love to know more and do various projects, for example I have some pipe-dream of making a skimmer like yours after seeing it. But I don't think that is possible with the information provided (I am sorry, I know that your not doing a DIY thread here but your skimmer looks AWESOME, who wouldn't want to duplicate it :D ).

yes the original plans, minus the wet neck.
I will still need to make the venturi valves for the pumps right?
It will be 7.5" wide recirculating needle wheel design.

LOL crazy skimma :p john call me and we can talk about that more.

shaun do you think it's possible to stripe the water way to much until planktonic diversity is like almost gone? because i think im doing that and the SPS arent getting the polyp extention that i want. at night the polyps come right out but in the morning they are no where to be found. I know SPS are found in cleaner water but not super clean right? there should still be some planktonic life in the water for breeding etc??? because my skimmer is pulling alot out and my water is so clear no ozone and carbon running tank so far is like it.

Maybe, but there are more obvious causes. Are you sure you don't have redbugs?

Dave I am going to do a tit-for-tat with you. I answered your question so now please answer mine. How do you connect the recirculating pump?.

shaun,

I am ordering the final parts this week for the ill fated skimmer project.

I will be using uniseals to hook up up the plumbing, and attach the collection cup/tube assembly. The pump will screw onto the tubes via the pvc unions, one side is threaded (the pump side) and the other side is a slip fitting which is glued in place to the tubes leading to the skimmer. all you will need to do is attach the pump, and some tubing for the feed pump, which will be a small powerhead.

the one thing I need help with is the return tube. I will discuss that with dave at length. I will be making the skimmers to sit next to a sump. I'll figure it out with dave how to make one that can hang on the side of a tank. It might be too heavy, I'm not sure.
