WHOOO HOOOTERS!

I'm done... Almost.

I got the 150w DE sockets today and wired them up.

I plugged them in, turned on the lights, and viola!

Wait, only one MH turned on!!

After an hour of troubleshooting, I figured out it was the icecap ballast. Oh, well, I'll send it back and see what they say.

now the only thing left is my t5 ballast. It should be here friday.

I'm going to start moving things over this week!

Here's a pic.

oh, the water is so cloudy from particulate and from microbubbles. I tore my sump apart today, i added a piece to stop the fuge overfllow from splashing, and I fixed my removable baffle. I also permanently attached the chiller return (with zip ties of course)

weekend project: a bench to hide a 29gal topoff tank. and RODI filter as well.

it's 1x3 frame with 1/4" maple ply. the walnut edging was cutoffs from when I built my tank. I used contact cement to put them on.

All the carpentry is done. Tomorrow I need to get a piece of foam for the seat. If I happen to find material that will work I'll cover it as well.

Oh, yeah. and three coats of spar urethane outside and three coats of enamel inside. But those will have to wait till this weekend.

has it really been this long since i've posted on this thread?

wow.

So It's been up and running for a while. Of course I've added things and re-worked them. Heres what I've done so far:

Added a PCI 1/10th hp chiller on the return line. it's a dog. I'm getting about 300-400gph into the tank with a eheim 1262!
I think i'm going to get a dedicated chiller pump and use the return for just return.

Added two TLF reactors, one carbon, one rowa-phos. the carbon reactor has an eheim 1000 on it, the rowa-reactor is T'd off the main return. (shutting the valve doesn't fix the return pressure issue through the chiller)

Added my ghetto-styled kalk doser on the top-off. it's an old RO filter housing that has a bunch of kalk in the bottom. the water pumps into the bottom and leaves through the top. Not the best but it does work.

things i'm going to change:
I'm building a new sump. the divider I put in isn't really doing that much. Plus, I dropped down to using 1 durso instead of 2. the other has a straight piece of pipe as an emergency overflow. so my plan of feeding a seperate section with the other durso is not going to work.

re-do the chiller plumbing. probably going to add another eheim as a dedicated chiller pump. the chiller return will go into the overflow box, and mix with the tank water. I think it will chill more efficently that way. i tried going from the sump and returning to the sump, but the chiller kicked on and off to frequently.

I might sell the deltec mc500 in-sump and get a larger skimmer. the one i have rocks, but there's a few minor issues that bug me.

I'm switching to Ushio 14KK lights instead of phoenix. they just look Better.

I'm building an actual kalk reactor. I might build a super carbon+rowaphos reactor as well.

I'm going to re-do my rock work, along with bleaching and cooking my rock. I've got a VERY bad case of planaria, and some ugly mushrooms all over the place. Once the rock is out of the tank, I'll FWE it and keep it dosed for 2 weeks to kill the eggs as well. Half the rock is mine i've had for years and half is used from various places. I'm going to cook the rock proper and get EVERYTHING OUT. I'll probably pull the old bakpak2 out of the basment so there's some kind of skimmer on it while I do it. Good thing I have a backyard.

and lastly, i'm going to build (and possibly patent!) a sound-proof box for the ocean's motions. That thing is too damn LOUD.

Just got back from a few months out of town. UGH... the flatworms have taken over. This week I start to remove my rocks and bleach them. To much bad stuff, I'm just going to start over.

The current list o corals:
7 year old caulastrea: barely holding on, but seems to be doing okay. Lots of bubble algea to scrape off.

euphillias: two micro heads left. Right before I left town I made some fish food, and I got brown jelly disease from it. It wiped out all my torch, rainbow frogspawn, and green tipped frogspawn.

shrooms (that I want in the tank) are doing OK. not receding, not multiplying.

Clams are doing fine.

ugly green paly's, bluish mushrooms, greenish brown striped shrooms all doing quite well. Until I take out the rocks... Bwaaa haaaa haaaa.

I have 2 colonies of zoa's that are doing well.

Lost:
Pipe organ
encrusting gorgonian
purple sea whip gorgonian
frag of favia
neon green candycane
torch, rainbow frogspawn, two other frogspawns.

here's a FTS!
