Well In my 4 month old 29g tank I had ich & Velvet I lost five fish I?m left with 3 small ones now, I was going crazy so got all of Ruby Reef products; I think it?s helping now.

And with my 110G tank I have ich on my new powder blue tang that my wife got me as a anniversary gift, well she got me 4 fish in total from one of the on line company?s 2 went into the 29G & 2 went into the 110G.
I have to say she did a good job in picking the right fish, but I think it all started from the new fish, with all my other fish that I have for more then a year I never had problems.

I?m thinking of getting a good UV to help to help eliminate problems.

If you don't hypo your tangs before placing them in ur dt. I would say 9 times out of ten u will get ich..
I have 8 tangs in my tank all hypo'd before dt.. I'll be ading more ;)

Hypoing a tang will not do anything if the ich is already in your tank :)

But in this case I don't think that it has anything to do with the weather or husbandry. There may be a common vendor among some outbreaks

I am not blaming any vendor just so I make myself very clear. My problem is my problem for not qt'n. But I just want to know where I may have gotten it from.

Ich is always present in a tank. It may not show itself at all... Think of it as herpes for fish. It's there... you know it's there... but it just doesn't rear its ugly head until something changes.

Interesting skene, as I have ready both sides of that story, some say not unless introduced into a tank, others say all fish carry it, as they say there are always three sides to a story anyway huh? Haha

I'll side with it being a myth. Don't see a long term dormant stage in it's lifecycle.

Is "Ich" always present in our aquaria?

+1 you either have Ich in your tank, or you don't. It must be introduced to be present as it is a parasite.

To the OP - As you posed the question and included Ich, and many others lately have been dealing with Ich, I will address that topic..
You could have gotten it from either a fish addition or from a coral from a tank/facility that had Ich.(including past purchases from up to 1 month ago).

In regard to the question:
Where have you been shopping recently?

Please do NOT post on this thread where you have been shopping recently if you are one of the folks who has recently lost fish to an outbreak of Ich!

-->While everyone would want to know if a/any vendor/seller may have this parasite in their system - it would be pure speculation and NOT FACT to list any seller - whether it be a public or private seller, and possibly do harm to their reputation.

If anyone posts that information here, it will be deleted.
If you have had this issue and feel you want to inform us of where you have shopped, you can PM the info to me or another Mod. If we see a definitive pattern, we will take appropriate action.

Thank you.

Once again... Ich is not always present... Do your research.... It's a parasite... Hypo your tangs before dt,,, u will never see ich... There is no debate on this... It must be introduced.... I love wn people say that if a fish gets scared it will get ich( um no! Only if it has it already! ) or if it's stressed! Really? Come on! Or that it's like a cold...
Take any of my tangs,,, put them in a 5 gallon tank, please scare them, don't feed them, stress them as much as you want... No ich will ever show.. Tang will die but not from ich!!! So if anyone wants to prove their thoughts of ich take me up for the challenge,,, and of course 1000$ bet so you learn ur lesson! So sick of the ichy discussion!
Btw every tang I have ever bought had ich.. Just hypo the damn things.. I've done it to achillies as well... It's fine!

Kathy great link! I hope people will actually read it!
And btw ich can still enter on corals or whatever else you add to your tank.. That's what really sux about this (ich does not effect corals or attack them, just saying it can be transported by them or anything else)
Qt is the best thing we can do with anything we put in our tanks.. But sometimes we do miss things and make mistakes.. I have made plenty lol!

I don't really know anything about ich, but you crack me up! I just spit coffee all over the place, great analogy
