Selling on mr and the question of being rude

Mods here may not be perfect but, IMO, MUCH better than some mods in Reef Central.

I would rate mods here to be good in general for a free site. May be, if this site is a paid service, I will rate differently.

Lowballers are annoying and it's worst when teamed with the tendency of bad mouthing, trying to coerce the price they want. Actually, I think flakers are worse than lowballers because you can ignore lowballers early on while flakers actually consumed your time set aside for appointments. I have 2 flakers today already without informing me of not coming. I started to put a counter on flakers now to check whether I want to deal with them anymore.

Also expecting(not asking for a favor) FREE delivery, and TAX FREE are very annoying culture in this forum's buyers too. I have many New York buyers from eBay and NY Sales TAX automatically charged with the eBay system is never questioned. So it's not a problem with New Yorkers but more about MR buyers.

I'm always up for a good deal but I try not to lowball .... ( sometimes don't work lol) but what piss me off is when people put I have a 75gl for sale .... Ummm how do you expect to sell something with no pictures ?! Or price ???? Or location ?! All thread should start

I come on this site to learn about reefs and the Obama/Romney/Bush avatars have nothing to do with reefs so I ignore them

If people are not happy with the Mods and the buyers of a free public site then why come back to it? Find another site thats better.....

This I can understand because your not only asking for delivery but your willing to pay extra to give the seller an incentive to come to you, that's a legit offer , I just had a reefer offer me $30 bucks more than what I was asking to deliver it and I was not at all offended , in fact I made the arrangement with a good friend to have the stuff delivered to the reefer that same evening !!! It's all in the approach !!

IMO...it is hard to read EVERY thread ... personally I read as many current posts as possible, but I will miss some that are posted before I go online.

If ANYONE has a problem with a post/thread PLEASE report it, that brings it to our attention, and if the 1st available mod is unsure about it, it will be referred to the rest of us, for discussion.
For example, I'm unsure if this thread should be deleted... so I'll wait for advice...I do know that reposting it, once deleted, would not be the right way to express your dissatisfaction!

I think that a system should be in place to allow the forum members to vote if a thread should be deleted. Not just moderators. This thread is perfectly fine in my book. Just someone sharing their personal opinion and experiences. Isn't that what these forums are for? How can someone gauge something accurately if you delete a topic that could be helpful to others? Just my two cents.

I learned that dealing with people on MR can be very hard.. I offer free shipping on anything i sell now and figure it into asking price, almost 100% of time i try selling something on MR the first question is can u deliver!!Then second ? is can i have your first born child!!!

I've had great experiences dealing with people on MR.

Here's some advice for anyone who complains about buying and selling on MR:

Don't buy or sell on MR. Deal with the idiots on Craigslist that will do the same crap you deal with here, or pay to sell on eBay and deal with the same crap there.

Oh and by the way... Those sites don't have forums to complain when you don't have things the way you want.

Seriously people, this is an awesome site, and a great resource for reef keepers. Other sites have eliminated their sale forums because people have complained too much about it, at it would be a shame to see that happen here. So suck it up, or don't use the site. Complaining about the site because of a few bad apples is in poor taste. Either don't deal with those people or leave. Go start your own site. It wouldn't be the first time someone has left here and tried. Best of luck with it.

mmmm....can you deliver your first born to jersey for free? if not then i'll cover just the gas for you to get to me then after that you're on your own....lol. no tolls needed....just put some duct tape over your license plate.:tired:


i have had pm's asking to deliver free chaeto from jersey to long island since my office is in queens and it's only 20 min. away.....guess what i told him.....:smash:

As far as the low baller thing I never really got why ppl get pissed about that either don't answer or make a counter offer ! If a price is agreed apon b4 guy comes over then he starts trying to renegotiate that's complete bs but through pm too me make me an offer if its to low i tell them lowest ill go is x!
I really feel alot times guys post stuff for too much also like I have 2 brand new mp40s selling them for 400 each , well why on earth would I buy them when I can get brand new ones with warrantee for few more dollars from a store that I have recourse with if it breaks! To me I'm not buying anything used unless its atleast 40% off new price otherwise I'd rather just have it new with the warrantee

I even had a guy who didnt pay ($100 worth of corals ) cause he promised me he will pay next friday, 87 fridays later no pay ... And he is selling the stuff here every two weeks .. I treated him like a friend .. I wish i can post his name here but i cant .... Not good .. One day ill give him a big punch ...
