Says the stealth vendor...

It's still funny to me people complain about capitalism yet choose to live in a capitalist society. Wait... people want to... make money to increase their wealth and quality of life!? No way! GET OUT! That is absurd. I hear communism is nice this time of year.

My stealthy vending mask an my evil coral laboratory. Lmfao you're quite funny Matt. I see why people are messaging me about you being a joke, keep up the good work there pal.

is it me or is it starting to get personal? This thread was not meant for that. All I wanted to see is if ppl felt the same way I did in the pricing of "rare" (common) corals. I am not besmirching those that are supplementing their hobby y selling a few things. Hell you pay the electric, water change, supplement, upgrade, etc and in the course of time things grow out and you frag and recoup. I for one buy as low as possible and I don't mind growing out a small frag (Rome was not Built in a day. It did crash and burn because it over reached).
I guess what I am disappointed at is the lack of conscience that has provided the "hobby"
Yes we live in a capitalistic society, yes ppl have the right to charge what they wish, but that being said its quiet another thing when the "trading" becomes more expensive than just going to the LFS and buying whatever.
MatthewScars is right about capitalism but haven't we seen enough over inflation of markets, Housing, Medical, Tech, Financial, etc to allow it to affect the hobby?
Or am I just off my meds?

Thanks, and yes you are. So stating that everything else is like this, but you want a causal hobby to somehow be different? Why should it be? I can go to crutchfield and buy new deck for $500, or find it new on ebay or another vendor for $300. So why would I buy it from CF? Its the same thing with coral, people will stop using stealth vendors and over priced members/normal vendors once the market is flooded and everyone starts lowball pricing these expensive corals. Coral X will be $100, then someone will want to sell it faster and drop the price to $90, then someone else will drop to $80 to sell it faster, and so on.

Its just the way things work.

It is getting personal because certain people are making idiotic random jabs at mr members for no reason.

I found your thread 100% correct, there is no reason for prices to be the way they are. These things grow naturally in our tanks if we take care of them, if you wanna make career money out of it invest in a store front. Otherwise be fair. There are only a handful (if that) of fair manhattan reefers that have hooked me up or even given me something free. I give something I have overgrown away almost anytime someone comes to my house for something and I'm not talking regular green zoas, especially if there new to the hobbyyyy. I haven't had my tank for a long time an I'm still learning, I appreciate so much what some members have done for me lol helping me at odd hours of the night or with just plain silly questions or even giving me things I really liked for free. I don't understand the animosity between members, there isn't a reason for it. It's like high school on here with everyone having there own little cliques when we really should all be working in favor of each other to get the best prices and avoid all this like 100$ polyp bs. I spend more money on this crap than I do on clothes being a girl it's ridiculous, my friends think I'm nuts . Yes some people may have spent 50$ per polyp way back whennn, they don't need to be charging that after they have already made there money back. I spent 50$ pp for magicians from someoneeee when I didn't know better, did I blow them up? No. Do I charge that when anyone wants one?. No. There one of the things I give away for free!!!!!

Some people are selfish, some people are selfless. It's going to be that way no matter how much anyone rants. Everyone knows what's right and wrong but at the end of the day it's your decision to sell for what ever price and someone to purchase it for what it's worth to them. Everyone needs to stop complaining.

I saw this little sign at a deli by my house saying "what we charge depends on your attitude" I'm adapting that in to any further items I sell for now on.

Only negitive thing I said was calling him a stealth vendor. Which was a proven fact in the past. Otherwise, I dont reply seriously to misspelled nonsensical retorts.

The point being missed by many people is, some people dont care about reefing. They dont care about community, or making friends. They found a way to buy something then sell it for an insane profit. So they do it. While you may have a strong sense of community, many do not. they just want to make money.

When a bunch of like minded people get together, they often times form a niche group and exclude others from joining the tightly knit group. This happens all the time in all walks of life. Im sure you and your friends would do the same thing in similar circumstances. I dont see this as a negative, more just human nature.

Everyone needs to stop complaining.

Totally agree.

This is very true an I think that those who wanna share should get together and when it's time to trade , we can do it among ourselves , this at times can get crazy with the pricing as if to say , you have to pay for the boat that went to the reef , the gas it took to get to the dive site and the diver and all his gear !! Sometimes I see fish for sale and the prices are nuts , and I think back about how I would catch that fish on rod and reel in Puerto Rico as a teenager and eat it lol it's just a very insane hobby at times and people want to do it for free whenever they can .......... And that's when the lowballers come out , and they know who they are !! They tell you that in order to sell something you have to lower your prices , in turn they will clean this item up and in 1-2 weeks they will sell it for more !!

Over all this hobby is amazing , you just have to make good friends and deal with those people , pay what your willing to pay!.

So true. I met someone on craigslist, a Chinese guy in Chinatown. He's selling coral for dirt cheap, so I went there to check it out. He said he got banned by MR and is now selling on craigslists. I still see him PM people all the time.

He bought the corals from the importer (his uncle). It's just disgusting that he keeps all the corals in his tiny dirty tank. Most of the stuffs are in very bad shape. He has a stack of cards to keep record of all the customers. I have no idea how he manages to run his business in a tiny apartment.

I don't think he cares about reefing at all.

He is an active community member. He has a tank in his/your house to hold coral. Seriously, come on.

I am done with this meaningless conversation. Logic obviously escapes you.

No lol he does not, I created Rob&Gab but I couldn't get him off of it so I had to create my own name so I could be on. I have a 45 tank a cube for my granny and a clown/anemone tank. You are absolutely out of your mind and look so insane, this is my hobby I got him in to it but I will not allow him to have a tank in my house. Rob has no tank.

Hey the guy in china town is a good guy in my book. He has hooked me up plenty of times. I also think in all reality he sells at a fair price. When something is not I pass ut that is far and few in between. As for the dirty little tanks I see it as a testament to what you can do with so little. There is no crazy expensive equipment to be sure. If he is using the money he makes to buy more coral and sell so he can get better tanks, gear, etc, I say more power to him as long as he keeps his prices and trades fair.
Anyway, its great to hear all this feedback. Maybe we should arrange a potluck coral event if someone is willing to host. ( would host but Im in manhattan and I could not get 5 ppl in with out ppl on each others shoulders! LOL) No vendors, No crazy names, no financial machinations. Just fish, critters, coral, algae, sand and supplements that you are trimming down, have no further need for. Pick a number out of a hat to decide the order and pick and pluck some enjoyment? It could be the first step in normalizing the pricing structure and hell maybe you can get a learn something you didn't know, save some gas, meet a new reefing buddy.
Beer (eerr coral) summit? What do you all think?
