Hi guys, well I took the PB tang back to the LFS today. They were pretty good about the whole matter.(It hadn't eaten a thing for 14 days) When I bought it two weeks ago, they did warn me that a PB is best suited to a mature tank ( I know many of you will say a PB is best suited to the ocean). So, I replaced the PB with a Yellow Tang. I checked that it was eating in the store before I left. All OK. The tang now at home has been chasing the clowns and has eaten and made friends with the cleaner shrimp.
At this point, I would like to say a big thak you to my American friends who are helping me learn this science(art) of reef keeping. C J

CJ,
I am glad you made the decision you did. Many people would not have the guts to admit they jumped the gun. Thank you also for letting us know how it turned out. GOOD JOB!!!

American?????

Naesco,

In case you hadn't noticed, Canada is in NORTH AMERICA! That makes you an American whether you like it or not, eh.

Just cause you guys won the gold in hockey (for the first time in like 40 years, I might add) doesn't mean you should get cocky.

This quite simply is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard....

Does this mean someone who lives in Lima, Peru is an American? It's South America!

Americans are people who live in the United States of AMERICA!

Canadians live in Canada, and Peruvians live in Lima Peru...

Yes, you freakin idiot, people in S. America refer to themselves as Americans. If you don't belive me, go there. You would know this if you weren't such an ignorant, ethnocentric "American" who thinks that the USA is the center of the universe. I have been to Lima. I have lived in Argentina, and have worked all over Latin America, and they will be quick to remind us gringos that America is the name of the continent, not our country.

All people who live in Europe are Europeans, not just the Italians or the Spaniards or the French. People who live in Asia are asians.

And people who live in this continent are Americans as well. It is ignoramuses like you who cause people abroad to hate us, and to label us as ignorant.

No flame here, but I DO prefer a distinction made between Canadians and Americans. When I do visit the U.S., I say that I am going to "the States". If I refer to someone from the U.S., I call them 'Americans". Always have, and everyone knows what I am refering to.

Couch-chesterfield, running shoes-tennis shoes-sneakers, roof-ruff, eh?-huh?, pissed-pissed off, (I remember my ex-mother-in-law telling me once how pissed whe was over something, and I thought that she was saying that she was drunk), toque-hat....whatever.

Sorry Jethro, maybe in Tenn. that's your backwoods belief, but I've lived all through South and Central America... in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Lima, Sao Paulo, San Salvador, and Tegucigalpa in Honduras. They don't call themselves Americans... Americano, spanish for American, (USA). Walk down Ipanema, Copacabana, and through the flavellas... ask if they are Americanos... You'll get robbed gringo.

Sorry Jackass, another ASSumption by your limited trailor park intellect. I'm not an American.

Sorry pal, but you're not helping your argument with the 5th grade logic and grammar... Honestly I don't know what side of the debate you are taking. Use some punctuation and a dictionary and I might better understand the point you are trying to make.

We here in the US are so ethnocentric (and in many cases ignorant) that we think we are the only ones worth of being called Americans. As a nation, we are pitifully ignorant of geography, world history, and the cultures of other countries.

Well, they say "acceptance" is the first step. At least you can recognize that we in the international community think, (and you are proving with your nonsense), that sadly many Americans think that because the US is one of the most dominant countries that everyone else outside the US borders are not worthy to be included. Sorry Billy Ray, take a trip to Dollywood...

quote
Yes, they have their "Tim Hortons," use the word "eh" incessantly, have some strange holidays and their funny looking mounties, but crossing the border into Ontario looks the same as upstate NY.

Exhibit A: Who's to say NY doesn't look like Ontario? Why does Ontario have to look like NY? Don't worry, you Americans were raised that way. To think other countries look like your country when in fact, the US in one of the "youngest" nations on the face of the planet....

Exhibit B: Their "Funny Looking Mounties". Who do you think you are judging the Canadians? You rednecks are responsible for the WWF. 300 pound men in tights doing an evening soap opera, let's not forget the fact your government just cleared visas for 6 of the 19 airline highjackers that were part of 9/11. Get off your high-horse Tonto!

quote:
I am sure I will get flamed by the many Canadians on this board, but hey, its true. I love Ontario, and have many Canadian friends.

Oh, well that makes it okay then. You idiocy stuns me... That's like saying, "Them black folks sure be like'n dem fried chicken, umm umm gud. But I have black friends so that's an okay thing to say."

You are the epitome of an egomanical American. (Are these words too big for you? I can dumb it down to your level if I need to)

We're Canadians not Americans no matter what logic you use. And despite our similarities we do have a different culture.

Oh my gosh... That's two!

What you're going to learn Mr. Uncle Sam is you Americans can embarrass yourselves sometimes to the point where we'd rather be called Brasilians, or Peruvians, or Mexicans.

You're not going to try and tell me that you call Mexicans, (who live in Mexico mind you), Americans.... are you? That would give me a laugh that would make my month!

First, I am not from TN. That is an assumption on your part. Second, I have lived/worked in BA, DF, Monterrey, Juarez, Sao Paolo, Porto Alegre, Oaxaca, and have traveled to countless others in Latin America. I have also lived/worked in Toronto, Madrid, Milan, Lyon, and other cities in Europe. I was born in Tokyo. Don't assume you know anything about me. I speak fluent Spanish and Italian. According to most my friends outside the South my English isn't so good.
icon_wink.gif
I have had countless roommates, friends and aquantances from all over Latinoamerica.

You missed the point entirely. My comment to Naesco was a lighthearted jab- a slight attempt at humor based on the fact that IME most Canadians are so adamant that they are NOT "Americans." My point about "eh", "funny looking mounties" and "Tim Hortons" was also tongue in cheek. One of the greatest attirbutes of most of the Canadians that I have met is their ability and their willingness to poke fun at themselves and more importantly at us. I have a friend who is from Ontario but who has lived in the States for many years, and has just been promoted to a position in Calgary. I commented to him that an astounding number of famous commedians are Canadian. Without missing a beat he responded that they simply have so much material to work with, making fun of "Americans!" None of my comments were intended to to offend the delicate sensibilities of our neighbors to the north. They were intended to be light-hearted and good natured. Heaven knows that we have more to make fun of on the south side of the border!

While it is true that in most areas if you say the word "American" people understand it to mean citizen of the United States of America, being an "American" abroad I have had many Latinamericanos have reminded me that "We are all Americanos on this continent."

Your implication that I live in a trailer park and am racists shows your own inclination to steriotype. I am glad that membership in the "Internation Community" has helped you to rise above steriotyping and prejudice. Your implications are incensing and simply untrue. As for your ability to use what you think are big words simply implies that you can afford a decent dictionary.

In retrospect, my initial reply to you was too harsh. I apologize for the language I used. I also assumed you were from this country, and I shouldn't have made that assumption. Again I apologize.

To the many Canadians on this board I will apologize if I have offended. My comments were not intended to offend. I know well that there are cultural differences between our two nations, and respect the fact that many find the distinction between "American" and "Canadian" to be important. I think that for the most part we have more in common than that which is different. The Canadians that I have met are some of the nicest, most accomodating and fun people I have met.

When I visit Toronto (which recently has been about once every six weeks) my friends there are quick to kid me about being an "American." It is true what my friend said that "they have so much material to work with." It is good-natured kidding and they seem to enjoy some kidding in return.

Back to fish:

CJ- I am glad the Tang went back. I have wanted one for quite some time, but have decided against buying one due to their dismal success record. I think taking it back also sent the right message to the LFS.

For those of you who have been following this thread for information about the tang or simply for entertainment purposes, please review the poll on the powder blue tang and add any information/experience you might have.

I hope that someday we will know more about the care of this particular fish and that it will be aquacultured.
