So I started vodka dosing...

Just to let you guys know I've been ODing on the mysis this last week.. almost 10 cubes a day..

interesting T how would u know which method is working if u doing all that?

I'll use the lanathanum as a supplement to keep the phates around 0.02 as most people say vodka doesn't do this..
I also need them down as fast as possible on a slow consistant basis( if that makes sense) so that I don't rtn my pieces from quick phosphate drops.

For me, I am just lazy or too many crazy appointment requests and thus never been able keep my schedule.

I never keep my schedule in the vodka dosing. When cyano, of algae bloom occurs after a major shipment in, I dose vodka as high a 1/2 cap(i.e. about 3ml. about 3 days, I dose again, the amount of cyano will clearly going down.

I kind of gave up in cleaning my holding tank and do it only once a week as everytime when new shipment in, the system will need to re-balance and the tank will look ugly again.

I never see the FTS of Tobin but the SPS he gave me are very colorful indeed!!!
I also notice he likes to play around his reef stuff like putting two completing monti on the same frag and see what will turn out. He gave me a superman vs superwoman (FREE) and the two will grow over/kill each other at the edge and such. It's just him, no one can ever change his personality I guess.

my question is y try something new? what r u trying to achieve?

2: dose vodka within 3 days "P" went up to 0.28! from "0"-0.28 is a hug difference!
anything happen to you system or your SPS?

3: ok by ODing to 6.2 vodka + the lanathanum what r you expecting? how would you know which one dropped the "P"?

As far as using both lanathanum and vodka I'm using the lanathanum as a quick fix to phosphates not a long term solution.. I will be trying to keep phates at 0.02 on a more stable basis by usinh lanathanum when it get's to 0.04 to drop them back to 0.02..
Do you get it now? It's easier to explain in person than to write up a long post which I might forget about something..

You started at 2ml in the beginning and you made it up to 6? Over the course of how long? Sorry to hijack the thread Tobin ... but I am so curious ... I started at 1.0ML in the first day on a full system that is just shy of 120G ... Did you kill your entire tank in the end? Not trying to be a d0uche about this ... After reading the articles on vodka dosing ... it would take quite a bit of time to reach 6ml per day on a 90G tank ... I don't even think you would need that much. Which articles did you read that told you to start at 2ml per day?

Now somewhere between when I read this article and when I started this process I must have dosed myself. To be honest I started at 2ml the 2nd and 3rd go rounds but I don't remember starting at that level the first time. The first time I did this I remember it taking me about a week and half before I got to the point where I saw a reaction on the algae. Now just to be clear, so that nobody has a heart attack, I tend to tinker and rely on how the tank looks and yes I am extremely impatient. That being said, other than the discoloration of the coraline and monti caps I had no problem with my other corals which at the time were mostly LPS. I also didn't suffer any bacterial blooms.

Im dosing volka not for nitrate at 0 ,but for phos and it doing pretty good no problem with my tank my birds nest it starting to color up my moti is getting more color. So it working for me. I use this site http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/index.php . It tells you what to do and give you a table for dosing for different proofs of volka and the dosing for what size tank . And before and after pic from dosing.

You are "on a whole other level bro" and have beautiful sps that you never take pictures of...And you never take full tank shots. 10+ years of experience but you were FOWLR and just starting to get into reefing when you joined MR a couple years ago. I still remember when you sold off all you non-reef safe fish so you could try SPS. It wasn't that long ago.

I'm sorry to call you out but you love to talk yourself up and frankly I'm not impressed. Check your pride at the door and take note of the advice given to you by some of the reefers who truly are on a "whole other level bro" and you might see some improvement.

People who have taken my advice are still going strong.. I also get advice from a couple people here and on RC. I experiment a lot and it works for me and people who have tried some of my ways.. I'm cocky for a reason.. I know what I'm doing, I'm good at what I do and pay lots of attention to my systems.. I do this for a living, and am doing damn good..
As far as seeing improvement, that's not why I'm trying vodka you should really pay atttention. My pieces were already good..

Vodka is dosed into the system to grow bacteria that will eat nitrates and phosphates.. That's what I got from the readings..

Its been 3 weeks know I been dosing. Im just dosing to bring phos down and it working . And yes i use gfo as well and rodi water.
