How much does your tank cost you monthly now? lol then just multiply that by 30 and there ya go!

Seriously though, it is going to be incrediably expensive (in the tens of thousands a year) unless you do local fish like suggested that way you could get like 50 gallon drums and fill up water at the nearest clean shoreline. I think some stripers and blue fish would look awesome in that tank. Maybe some sea robins or a local dogfish too!

First, 3,000 gal isn't so huge that it has to be built on site. I've seen a 3k delivered via freight truck and forklifts used to put it in place. I've also seen smaller tanks craned in. It depends on the shape and where it's going.

Second, a 3,000 gal tank is not only going to cost a lot but will take up a lot of time in maintenance. Again, this depends on what kind of equipment you use, but to be honest, if you don't do it right from the start it's going to turn into an expensive headache.

Third, this is no small task and while it sounds awesome, you don't want to bite off more than you can chew. Let it sit at your neighbors house and do some searching on the net for info on big tanks before you start down this road.

If you want actual information and experience feel free to PM me and we can go over specifics.

There are many variables that come into consideration. On a 1200 gallon that I was planning for It was in the neighborhood of 800 +/- a month excluding food. This has an extreme amount of variables. Keep in mind this is a low number but is using very energy efficient equipment. Led's, heat exchangers, recovery units..... If you would like a schematic and exact breakdown of everything I can have my Architect email you.

I think out of everyone your perfect for that tank jarrett!

...

thanks buddy...

I think just to get 3200gal running with coral, rock livestock, equpment your looking at 30-50k just to get started if i was building it from scratch,
I pay close to $500 just on electric for my office tank that has close 2400watts of lighting and 700-800gals of water. Box of Salt cost me $55 every 4 weeks and all the gfo, carbon, etc that goes with it around $100-300. this does not include all the coral i buy, bulbs, rodi filters, etc

You will need one big chiller for this bad boy

To be honest, I think this would make an unbelievable local tank... I don't know if you know much about the waters around here, but if I got that tank for free I would use tap and NSW for the maintenance and then just put a sand bed in and have rock along the back wall for some of the structure oriented fish around here. You could use legal sized fish in a tank this size so that wouldn't be a problem.
If you had the money to maintain a tank this size, it would be incredible and no cost for livestock. You also would only need to keep the water at around 70 degrees. Wouldn't cost much to heat it.

Thane, you know I'm an enabler. Do you really have to ask?

On that note (and not to hijack) but I had a meeting tonight about a possible merger with a friends company that would basically put me in charge of a 20k and two 3.6k gallon maintenance accounts. It's going to be amazing and the new contacts won't hurt either lol.
