I don't mean to change the topic but, What is a TRUE Bonsai? I bought one about a year ago and when I bought it, it was labeled as a purple bonsai acro. Its grown nicely. In the last couple of days ive seen the "Garf" added in front of it ( I hadn't heard of that) and also, that there is a "true" one and a not a "true" one. What the heck is the difference? How do I tell? and regardless if mine is true or not, its still is a very nice piece lol

it's very hard to find a true "Garf bonsai" a few still floating. Easiest way to id is by very dark solid purple with bright green fluorescent polyps. 90% of what you see around today is maricultred tri color or purple validas. Look very similar but don't hold the solid purple threw the entire body of the color. Typically see brownish base or lighter colored branches

Years back, probably over 10 years ago, Garf.org use to sell a coral called the Garf Bonsia, which was an purple acro with yellow polyps. They stop selling them quite a long time ago, I'm not even sure if they still have it themselves. A number of very similar corals have been sold as a purple bonsai or even a Garf bonsai since then, though I'm not sure if anyone still has the original Garf Bonsai or even know what it looks like exactly.

Here is a picture from their website from back in 2002, it's listed as a Bonsai Acro but this is most likely the Garf Bonsai that was sold.

Thanks for the educational info guys. I must admit, mine was very similar to the one Marrone pictured. After an ato Kalk accident, and me going from T5 to Chinese LED to Ai Prime and Back to T5 with alk swings (since I stopped kalk) All in one year, mine doesn?t look like that anymore. The encrusting base is still nice dark purple but branches not as much. Once I get everything back in line hopefully it will color back up.

It's like they said it's just the original with lineage. Nothing big the original aka garf, was the nicest one I've seen and had ..its real purple with bright green poylops, like jay said it's all the same type but the garf was the og...i would like to have a few of the older corals that were around when I started..
