Rimless is the way to go. We never had anything but rimless back in the days in Europe. Looks great. It looks like I'll be placing an order with GC if the local deal falls through.
I'd leave the wall the way it is, not a big deal about the rimless part not being seen.
I like the rockwork and how it's away from the walls.
Keeping the tank with no sand and using filter socks will make keeping your tank clean pretty easy. However if you want sand you could add a shallow sand bed with out any trouble.
nice tank. the rock structure is exceptionally good. you're off to a great start for keeping sps.
the top overflow box does stand out a bit, but there r tricks on making it not as obvious. keep up the good work.
Jonathan: You're right...that's why I don't have the timer set to turn on the lights until after 4:30pm when my workday is officially over when I'm working from home. Although I admit every once in a while I get tempted to turn on the actinics an hour earlier...
NYreefNoob: Thanks...I was going to have glass-holes.com make another box. They are very reasonable but don't know if it's worth it...
Reefman: What tricks do you have in mind other than re-arranging the rock work?
I have to thank Tim for helping me arrange the rock..One day he was bored and came over to give me a hand...
I think there is too much rock in there right now...and may get rid of two pieces..
I'm posting some links to some really nice threads on shallow rimless tanks....These tanks are amazing.
1 thing comes to mind would b to create a bridge between the piles. this can also allow more real estate for place sps. another would b to paint the back black so it blends in with the box. having a swallow sand bottom may also help.
Reefman: Great idea! Time to get some acrylic rods and start drilling
Awibrandy: Thanks for your comment. Patience is key indeed. If I had unlimited funds I'm sure that my tank would have been filled up a bit more at this point but you appreciate the end result more by taking your time and seeing your tank grow.
Not sure what my next addition might be but I'm going to start dosing two part from bulkreefsupply.com and start off with easier to keep sps.
Thanks. As always thanks for all of your help in answering my questions. The ranco is working great with the power plug adapter and the two heaters and is keeping the temp pretty much constant at 76.
Thanks and thanks for the mushrooms. I'm swinging by on Sunday to check your cube tank out. Can't wait for you to start a thread for it. It's going to be nice.
Well it's been a while since I have updated this thread. I re-aquascaped. Picked up some shelf pieces and the rbta from Grunding5's breakdown. It has since moved again since I last took these shots yesterday but it has been in the same location for nearly 3 months.
Big thanks to Geraldo 1ucky who helped me aquascape. That's one thing about working on an inwall tank thats sort of a hassle. You have to go back and forth until you get it right so it's helpful to have a guide in the front of the tank.
Also thanks to Perry (akma) who gave me a frag of sourapple zoanthids....
Finally a thanks to Giuseppe DC who gave me a whole bunch of starter corals and of course to the MR community for comments/suggestions.
Pics are not the best and were taken at different exposures in manual mode with a canon power shot sd1000.
Thinking of pairing down the rock and going with more of a minimalist look. I think it's too crowded now. Maybe I'll add sand.
On to the shots...
RBTA with clowns......
Salifin tang and candy cane macro mode
Various FTS with different exposures
Any suggestions on coral placement, or other ideas always welcome.
