Pat Burrell will be good for a month or two and then suck the rest of the year. They just made their team worse.

Andy should announce his retirement. I'd like for him to come back to the Yanks but I don't think he's worth more than 10 million.

Berroa, Yankees agree to deal

Angel Berroa | Dodgers
The Yankees have signed free-agent infielder Angel Berroa to a minor-league contract, FoxSports.com reported.

The website reported that the 30-year-old Berroa is expected to compete with Cody Ransom for the utility infielder job. Berroa began last season with the Kansas City Royals, but was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in June, where he filled in for the injured Rafael Furcal.

Yes he was but hasn't done much in his MLB career. I think he had 1 good year with the Royals. Career .260 hitter.

I would rather the Yankees let their talent develop.

I understand that, but most infielders these days hit over .260. Hey, if he is only going to play once a week it probably makes sense to sign him and let Ransom stay in the minors and play everyday.

I believe Angel won rookie of the year at one point. Frankly, anyone who only plays sporatically is most likely going to hit .250 or less anyway. It's the defense and the ability to at least have good at-bats that matters most.

between 2003 and 2006, he played regularly and batted .287, .262, .270 and .234 respectively. Certainly not lights out. I'd rather them let Cody Ransom get his at bats. He can put up those types of numbers too. The same thing with Brett Gardner. I want to see him get at bats.

I believe he hit over .300 (not by much) in 40 or 50 at bats. Not bad. The Yankees can use some young blood on their team like Ransom and Gardner to go along with Cano, Huges and Joba.

I'm starting to get annoyed with these guys :irked: They act like the Yankees owe them the world. Did they not get paid or something? Bernie Williams, Joe Torre, Mariano Rivera (he started going down that path) and Bernie Williams. They were paid Millions for their services. I would say some of them, especially Bernie, got paid a lot more by the Yankees than they were going to get paid from someone else. They want loyalty but don't want to be loyal. Go fly a kite during a thunderstorm Petitte!

Yankees offer to Pettitte may be off table

Andy Pettitte | Yankees | Interested: Dodgers?
Andy Pettitte recently rejected the Yankees' latest one-year, $10 million offer, and barring a significant strategy shift by either side - the Yanks either will lower their offer or not make another offer at all, the New York Post reported.

The newspaper reported that a lowered bid almost certainly would end the free agent pitcher's second Yankee tour, sending him to retirement or another organization.

One executive briefed on the matter described both the chances of making a deal and the $10 million bid as being "on life support," the Post reported.

I can't understand why Pettitte expect more than 10 million. He got 16 million last year for so-so pitching. We'll find another pitcher, but no other team will offer him 10 million or more.

I don't know why the Yankees would trade Nady. He has been improving every year in the bigs and played great for them last year. Screw Swisher! Maybe its because Swisher can play the outfield as well as first base?

Yankees shop Nady over Swisher

The Yankees would strongly prefer to trade Xavier Nady and retain Nick Swisher to alleviate their current roster logjam, a person familiar with the club's thinking told Newsday.

The newspaper reported that general manager Brian Cashman has received more requests for Swisher than for Nady. With spring training more than a month away and the season opener just about three months away, however, there is no imperative to execute a quick trade.

By signing Mark Teixeira to an eight-year, $180-million deal, the Yankees pushed Swisher out of the starting first-base slot. Now the Yankees have Swisher, Nady, Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui to cover the corner outfield and designated hitter spots.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported that the Pirates have had trade talks with the Yankees regarding outfielders Swisher and Nady, but there is little cause to expect a deal involving either coming to Pittsburgh.

Houston an unlikely stop for Pettitte

Andy Pettitte | Yankees | Interested: Dodgers?
MLB.com reported that the Houston Astros are a highly unlikely destination for Andy Pettitte, the free agent lefthanded who turned down an offer from the New York Yankees.

Newsday suggested Thursday that Pettitte "might be softening on his opposition to rejoining the Astros," but MLB.com said the Astros have maxed out their payroll at $100 million and aren't planning to add.

"We haven't had any discussion with Andy or his representatives and we don't see a scenario where he would fit into our payroll scenario at this time," Astros GM Ed Wade told the website.

I hope Pettitte gets no other offers. That will make him realize what he passed up.

I would trade Swisher over Nady in a heartbeat. I am a big fan of Nady and expect him to play everyday and contribute in a big way.
