I'd just like to know how some places get all the awesome color ricordia rocks with 15-20 polyps on them, when I can only get single polyps on small rocks.

but seriously Chip....with a post count like that, you should know vendors are not gonna divulge their livestock sources....access to good stock is the only competetive advantage most of them have left, since "advice" and "customer support" hold little value to an educated consumer in the information age.

True, but we're a small shop in the center of New York State. What difference would it have to some online vendor/retail shop in Indiana if we knew who they ordered from?

It's not like I'm gonna order 30 pieces every week of just ricordia...

Well thats what I thought, but they have used that excuse before and insisted that is why they haven't been getting any in lately. They are a pretty big importer so I will have to find out what gives.

'bout time someone starts naming some names on this forum and making it just a tiny bit worth someones time to come here. Time to show us what you got instead of just saying mine is better.

Someone asked were to get something so I told 'em, how about you? This is an "Industry Forum" isn't it-what's everyone afraid of? Even if I worked for the place, which I don't, so what--give them a call and check em out--big deal--really hurt someone now didn't it---NOT!!

Its not like there is something of any value being pushed aside on this forum now is it? For evidence of this check out the oops or Its a Wholphin threads, now theres some really great info for folks in "The Industry" right?

A few wholesales want to get their names out there, so what, I for one would like to know about some of the wholesalers that don't advertise and I don't get to know about otherwise, whats the big deal. How bout this, JT works for FishHeads and they have some pretty nice stock each week. So there, ban me or something for spreading some real info. Want to know about all the wholesalers I know of, well just ask me, so what would it hurt anyone. Come off your high horse, like this is some grand forum for unbiased sharing of important industry issues, ya right!

The point is the revelation of dealer sources to the public...just to prove that you know something on the inside...
Now with the click and shoot world of the internet, eveyones a "player" trying to get still another thing direct and cheaper.
If the trend continues, the real dealers who pay bills every week and buy from DR and others routinely week will have nothing special to bring customers in.
You guys have put DR on trial here and basically outed him to the public....the question is if he will then deny the public and stick to the dealers that secure and allow the critical mass of support that allows some cool ricordeas to flow.
'WHOLESALE ONLY'...What does that mean?

If you tempt enough lightweight wholesalers to shunt the best stuff to the public, what will be left to actually pay the other 90% that it takes to run the business?
Many retailers boycott such outfits...ie. those that drop-ship for etailers and those who try to play all sides at the same time.
ALL wholesalers get in some really cool and coveted things....should this stuff all be seperated for private sales to the public?
The extra mark-up for seling the ricordea colonies to the public would pale compared to the loss of weekly support from those that buy thousands of emerald crabs, peppermint shrimp, condys, grammas,dusters etc.
All that good stuff sells anyway, so a wholesaler has zero problem in moving it. Why lose it to picky, once every 3 month customers anyway?

Your first post to the forum, heck on the entire board, was to pimp DR Imports. This clearly smells like a personal agenda to me. This forum was created to allow a place for hobbyists to come and learn more about the industry as a whole. It was not created for the "industry". This forum is on a hobbyist board as an extension to the hobbyist. Most of the people who post in this forum are also hobbyists. If you want to pimp commercial activity, I suggest taking it to aquafind.com.

I'd like nothing more than to come into this thread and say "Hey Chip, call me.. I have your ricordia!". But, I can't.. firstly because it goes against my ethics and, secondly, because we agreed not to do these kind of this when the forum was first created. However, I've never been your typical industry representative. This is why I never fit in with the big boys in Los Angeles where you are pressured to SELL SELL SELL for 8 hours a day. This isn't about money to me, I'm doing this cause I truly love the hobby and the people who buy from me know this. If someone wants to buy from me, they know how to find me and they do find me. I don't have to resort to sleezy sales tactics to put food on my plate and do what I love to do.. play with fishies and corals all day.

I'm not on a high horse, I just tell it like it is. I get more compliments in private about how I post more than I do complaints. People know who I am when they are talking to me, I'm not on a soapbox hiding behind a curtain of anonymity like you are.

Last time I checked I outed DR imports before Jumbo. A simple search of florida ricordia also brings up drimports.com which is plainly available to joe blow public to see.

There does appear to be some stuff offered that is pretty hard for the average dealer to get their hands on right now. Whenever a certain wholesaler calls wanting an order I ask about the orange, blues, and yellows, and they don't seem to have any so the order goes begging. I too wonder why a legitimate wholesaler would not try and spread the wealth a little better in an effort to move some of the less cherry items like crabs, snails, brittle stars, along with other Atlantic fish and inverts. One could also wonder why the source doesn't just start their own e-bay sales site and save the shipping to IN. Could it be that this stuff is being illegally harvested and the source wants a layer or two of insulation? 8O Something seems fishy.
BTW unless there is a last minute rush of bids the stuff appears to be going fairly low.
