I'm moving in few months so I want to take this opportunity to either do everything right or get out of reefing. I've been mildly reefing for about 5 years in a very sub-optimal setup. By sub-optimal I mean I've been stuck with the following setup due to space reasons:
45 gallon pentagon tank...
I have a PowerCompac 36Wx2 lamp, model LV-680. IT doesnt turn on properly. Whenever the timer cycles on, the lamp wont power up. However it will turn on when I disconnect the lamp's connection from the ballast and reconnect it. Why is this? Why won't it power on unless I manually disconnect and...
My sixline wrass was inside one of my BTAs yesterday looking for food. He was definitely brushed and it definitely didnt bother him. The anenome is probably about 20X the size of the wrasse, if not bigger.
They must not have a very potent sting.
I've read they will eat mandarins. Couldnt say from personal experience.
I don't think they need much light though. Mine actively avoid the light and I only have about 125 watts of PCs over my 55 gallon. I feed them scallops and they grow pretty rapidly.
Clean water and regular feedings are...
I used a Kent pro, plastic scraper that I got gree from FFExpress. It sucked on my glass tank. So I made my own scraper out of a razorblade and that was great although I tore up my seals.
I recently aquired a Kent Pro scraper with a metal head and it's fantastic. Much softer than the razorblade...
I don't think currect aquariests are quite as negative about keeping anemones as they were just a year or two ago. Too many people have been keeping anemones with success lately. You sound like you've been lucky, but you obviously have pristine water and you feed real food to your anemones. In...
It sounds like you have plenty of light already unless you want clams or sps corals, and you'd want metal halides for them anyhow. How'd you get that much wattage over a tall 37 gallon tank anyhow? I have a 55 gallon pentagon and the most light I can fit above it is 96 watts PC and 15 Watts NO...
I read your other thread. You might be better off returning your medusa worm to the store. They can be toxic when they die and possibly wipe out your whole tank. I've seen this happen personally when one got caught in a powerhead. You have been warned.
There really isn't much you can do to take...
I have a gold striped maroon that's beautiful and friendly. He never bothers anything in the tank and only gets aggressive is somthing goes near his anemone - usually cleaner shrimp after scallops the anemone just caught. Best clown I've had yet, and I've had some really nice false percs before...
I've been dosing SeaChem Reef Complete and Reef Plus. No problems for the last few months and corals look good. I havent been adding Reef Calcium. Anyone here recommend these or think I should go with another product? I don't use dosers and I don't have the equiptment to set up Kalk. I'm running...
I'm looking to add a hawk to my reef that wont eat my hermit or cleaner shrimp. Falco's, or Dwarf Hawkfish stay the smallest and are supposed to be pretty easy going. Does anyone know if they will harrass hermits?
Generally the answer to this is NO. If you are trying to keep a live deep sand bed the micro organisms that exist there will turn turn the sand over on their own just fine. They don't need help from any big clumsy creatures trying to eat all your microlife. Usually anything that roots around in...
