You probably can but what's the point? The phones software is probably only compatible with the AT&T network. Without the AT&T service you are better off buying an MP3 player.

Actually, I was told that you can't use it as an MP3 player without first activating the device on AT&T. The whole thing is crippled down until it's registered.

I can understand the pricing as their MP3 players are over-priced as it is, but I'm not holding my breath to get one. Plus who really cares about wifi access. You know how many wifi enabled PDAs I have. They never get used. The only thing I really would have liked would be a wifi blackberry. Let's face it, we're likely all indoors near a wifi connection both at work and home today. If it weren't for the darn telecoms I would have loved to see RIM sell more of those units on the open market.

Two of my co workers bought iphone last Saturday. I finally got to play with it today for about 10 minutes and I have to say it's very impressive. Internet connection is fast enough and service cost is only $60 which include 400 minutes talk time and unlimited internet access. Damn, my verizon service is more than $50 which doesn't even have any internet access.

I think I am going to get one once my Verizon service is over, so I still have 4 months to save my money.

Are you serious everytime I see that verizon guy I want to smack him. True quam my
A$$. At&t\ Cingular have been excellent at providing service. I have been with them for three years. Not one dropped call. I get signals in subways, tunnels, hell when I landed in Jamaica as soon as the plane touched ground I got a text from jamaicas Cingular telling me welcome and the such. And as far as internet service goes its faster than some of my friends computers. Of course you can't view videos and the such but I'm sure they will fix that soon. I'm not trying to say the iPhone is bad I just bet after a few days they are going to have complaints with the glitches in the phone not the service. There are many BBs that they release and they all of a sudden start doing wacky things that have nothing to do with the service provider.

you still can't download music onto it the right way unlocked. =0) Friend of mine bought one unlocked and threw it into the garbage and bought himself the real deal.

Just got mine last week and its the best $$ i ever spent on a phone and i don't even use it as an ipod or anything. =P
