no confidence in Hughes yet
I'd like to see Andy comeback with out the pressure he had last year

I don't think he had that much pressure last year, we all supported him. He was always good in the second half or but it seems last year, he was better in the beginning. someone in his camp should just told him to accept the $10Mil offer and sign already. he might pull a clemens, come back at $16 pro-rated for second half. this way we can start joba then put him in the pen towards the end to get the 130 ip

Why wouldn't Hughes finish the season? The Yankees need to let their talent grow. Hughes is a big part of their future, along with Joba, Coke, and a few guys they have in the minors. They need MLB experience. Let Hughes pitch. Remember, he's your #5, not your #2 or #3.

IMO joba would be a better setup man and he should work to become the future closer for the yankees. Many years ago rivera was once the setup man for wetteland, and look how that turned out.

The Yankees will always have a backup plan if Hughes gets hurt. It might be Kennedy, it might be somebody else from the minors, but they'll have a plan. If not Hughes, what do you do with him? I think he's too good to use as long relief.

If the Yankees could get this guy for nothing, Do you think it would be worth a shot?

Mets' interest in Andruw Jones dwindles

Andruw Jones | Dodgers | Interested: Mets?

MLB.com reported that the Mets and Dodgers were involved in superficial discussions involving outfielder Andruw Jones during the Winter Meetings earlier this month, but a person familiar with those discussions said "nothing is ongoing, and nothing [no trade] is going to happen."

ESPN.com reported Monday that Jones had been the subject of trade talks between the Mets and Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the talks apparently went nowhere after the Mets asked the Dodgers to take second baseman Luis Castillo in a swap of bad contracts.

MLB.com said that the Dodgers likely would have been required to pay most of the remaining $22.1 million on Jones' $36.2 million, four-year contract. The Mets owe Castillo $18 million for three more seasons.

[OMG!! HELL NO!!! that guy just sux. plain and simple!!
did you see those strikeouts? and how much he gets paid next year>? the only way i would pay that much is for another pitcher or manny. manny we cannot have because the yankees have reached there limit in aquiring 3 A free agenst. that will never happen. i love the idea of trading for erik bedard for hideki matsui or jared washburn. quote=Domboski;541275]If the Yankees could get this guy for nothing, Do you think it would be worth a shot?

I agree, he'd just create more of a log jam in the OF and he can't hit. He'd be a very good CF for us but brings nothing to the lineup.

I would love to get Bedard in a trade. Wow that would solidify the rotation.

It looks like the Dodgers will pick up most of his salary but I do agree with you. They would have 4 half ass centerfielders then. I never liked Melky Cabrera. I'd rather see Brett Gardner play CF. At least he can steal some bases and play just as good an outfield as Cabrera (minus the arm). Brett will hit better if given another shot.

Erik Bedard would be good if healthy.

I agree on Gardner. He's fast, when he gets on base it's almost an automatic double. He can steal 3rd. He gets to balls in the outfield. And if given a chance I think he can be a big help.

I like Melky because he's a good outfielder with a canon for an arm, but he doesn't have the speed Gardner has. If healthy, Bedard is an #2 type pitcher in our #4 or #5 slot. That would be great. He has nasty stuff.

Not sure what Petitte is trying to accomplish:

Pettitte rejects Yankees $10 million offer

Andy Pettitte | Yankees | Interested: Dodgers?
Free agent left-hander Andy Pettitte has rejected the one-year, $10 million offer from the New York Yankees and there is no standing offer for now, the New York Times reported.

The newspaper said Pettitte could return because some in the Yankees' hierarchy want him back. But in a winter of aggressive activity, the Yankees so far have been unwilling to bend for Pettitte.

The offer to Pettitte represented a 37.5 percent decrease from his $16 million salary last season. Pettitte considered the offer for weeks, then met with General Manager Brian Cashman in Texas after the winter meetings last month.

I expect the Yankees to go up to 12 million, but no higher for Pettitte. I hope he's willing to take that. If he is not willing, thanks for the many years of solid pitching Andy.
