It's not just this season... he has been useless since he came to NY. He's gotten rid of a lot of the better picks, like Moore and Prucha, refuses to build a decent defense (Rosival... really?) and continues to pick up high profile washups.

Lindros
Bure
Holik
Gomez
Shanahan
Poti
Redden

Not to mention getting rid of players that could have benefitted the team as mentors, like Leetch and Graves.

This is a guy who while with Edmonton once said "If I had the Ranger's payroll, we'd never lose a game".

He's come to NY and tried for years to buy players that don't perform, at astronomical costs, destroying the salary cap, and not bringing the team up.

I think you got the Rangers mixed up with the Islanders, after all the Rangers made the playoffs the last 4 years.

Redden and Gomez turned out to not work, though Redden played fairly well in last years playoff, but he was able to trade Gomez and probably will be able to trade Redden somewhere down the line. Shanahan played pretty well and it was Sather that didn't want to pay him for another year. The other players where before the salary cap was in place and some of them actually did performed fairly well. As for defense, well under Renny they were a really good defensive team, problem was they couldn't score enough. The team right now has quite a bite of young players, especially on the blue line, which should help their power play, but it will take time to develop them. As for the salary cap, I'm pretty sure the Rangers actually have room under it right now.

Leetch and Graves where old, he got value for them which is better then keeping them to mentor players. As for Prucha and Moore, neither was playing and when they where they didn't produce.

Tonight's game was atrocious...Henry looked great under Renney's stingy offense, he looks like a wood block with this "defense as offense" new-look team...Avery is invisible, Brashear is a shadow of his former self, Dreaden and Dreary are horrible, and somehow we let Orr, Betts, Antropov and Sjostrom go and kept Voros? REALLY? There are a few bright spots-Sanguinetti tonight, Parenteua, Gilroy and Del Zotto, but Prospal and Gaborik can only carry us so far...and Boyle is 6 '13, yet fights like a little girl.

It remains to be seen if the pushing attacking style that they're playing now will work in the playoffs. Their power play should be better though, as now they have some good offensive defenseman who can shot from the point.

As for Antropov, he wanted and received a lot of money, more than he was worth, so he became a salary cap causality. The others were replaced by better cheaper players, though it would have been better if they could have found someone better than Brashear, though he still fights pretty tough. They do have some injury now but they're going to need to add some more offensive up front, which hopefully they can do at the trading deadline.

Work in the playoffs? We need to GET to the playoffs...and pray Gaborik doesn't go down this season.

Kotalik, Ansimov, Callahan and Dubinsky-average players at best. Staal, and Girardi-good. Lisin and Higgins...????????? Do they even play for us? The team looked lost, disjointed, and unfocused tonight, and that is being kind- it's hard for Henry to stop pucks when he has NO ONE in front of him helping...all i saw were errant passes out of the zone, cheap dump-ins into TB zone, missed passes, and confusion all over the ice. Very disappointing after last night's Giants game, and tomorrow we play Cinderella Crosby and the rest of the emperors...ugh.

At least he was performing. Redden and Rosival together make up about 20% of the NYR salary cap, and I've seen Pee-Wee games between periods at MSG with better defensemen. We wouldn't have cap issues like this if we weren't paying 2 sub-par players over $10m.

This is where Sather is to blame.

Last night vs. Pittsburg...I am hoping that was the low point of the season, and we turn it around from here on out. The only positive I saw was guys sticking up for each other-we have been getting pushed around all season, and it's about time there was some fisticuffs. The refs stopping Brashear from getting at Cooke was ridiculous...how are the players supposed to police themselves and protect their teammates??? Un-frikkin-believable. I hope Cooke is in tomorrow night's game.

I think, and thank god if I am right, that there is a different mindset with ownership at MSG. Remember, Cablevision owns both teams. And what I am noticing is that there is a patience now to develop the team as apposed to spending recklessly like the past few years. Biggest evidence I think is the Knicks not signing Iverson. Even though there may have been other reasons, but if this were the Knicks from two years ago, AI would probably be a Knick. Many people forget, many decisions still go through ownership. So total blame shouldn't go to Slather. Same thing with the Knicks.

Yes, blame Dolan for keeping his fave GMs around long enough to 'right their own ship'...or totally destroy a franchise -- Isiah Thomas... I think Sather got lucky when some of the kids played over their heads in the previous seasons...I like the young mix right now on the Rangers a lot...but if you look at our transactions from last season...and what's left (at least on the NHL level)...not much.
Ugh, and lest we forget the Knicks awesome lottery pick is going to Utah this year because of an IT trade.

Last nights game against the Penguins was better than 3 nights ago, but still not good. The Rangers just aren't playing well right now.

It would be nice to see, at one point during the season, a penalty get called when Avery gets hit with a high stick. Fleury hit Avery 3 times last night in in the face with the butt of his stick right in front of the ref and no penalty was called.

This team is in total disarray- there is no direction from the coach and he has not adjusted to the other teams attack- it is clear that the players are afraid to make mistakes and feel the wrath of Torts- you could drive a 18 wheeler between the defense and they back up so far in the zone Henrik can smell their collective asses.

As far as sticking up for one another- Crosby and Biil G. both punched Gabby in the face last night with no recourse - Delzotto got plastered by Adams and we never laid a body on him- and F'in MIKE RUPP skated around like he was the Rocket all freakin night and we never sent Boyle, Voros or Brashear out there to make him a 15 minute memory in the box.

Torts has lost this team- Henrik has stopped playing and Gabby just hasn't figured out yet that he is on the softest team in the league!

Slats era should end but Dolan is using this team as a write off -

Can I get a witness!

My wife and I have been saying for weeks now that the team is soft, but today, she flat out told me that Torts has lost the team, no one believes in the system, and there is a huge division in the locker room. Something needs to be done, and , she believes, will be done. Soon.

Something was done.

They blamed the backup goalie and placed Valiquette on waivers. They also picked up Erik Christensen, a center who has registered a whopping ZERO points and is a -3 in nine games with Anaheim. Oh yeah... and he's never had more than 18 NHL goals in a season.

You've gotta figure, since we need better defense and secondary shooting, replacing the BACKUP goalie, and getting a center that hasn't put a puck between the pipes this season... totally the way to go.

Now with Brashear injured as well (undisclosed injury), maybe we can pick up Bob Probert as our enforcer. Since he's been retired for 7 years and is now 44, he's a veteran and will be an amazing asset to the team. I figure Sather should offer him about 7 million. That should ensure that we get another useless player AND destroy the cap completely.
