Jersey shore is not an option. It's against the law to release an animal like that unless you are a qualified rescue and or research facility. Plus it will probably die after it's released.

the nurse shark is found from rhode island to south america, depending where it's from if you release it, it may be dead pretty quick. better to eat it then :(

Sad. I hope someone will release him in the wild. He's way too big for any private tank

He does not need a large tank. He needs a tank with surface area. Alot of people forget that sharks do not need a large tank in volume. The most important thing is surface area. You can have a 2000 gallon tank that is rectangular in shape and it would be no good, yet have a 800 gallon 10X8X20 oval/circle swimming pool type and that works. There are people in this hobby that have these type tanks, but finding them could be another issue. When having sharks in a private aquarium, the thing to avoid is corners...

And like Chief said. It is against the law to release into the ocean and chances are if he was released, he would die anyway. Our waters are not appropiate for him. If we were in CA, he would problably make it. He needs to go to a public/private Aquarium or like JHAlE said, better to eat it.

to make it even better the nurse shark is on the IUCN red list of endangered species,
way to go LFS

If it is an endangered species the aquarium or zoos will take him. I had an australian arawana(sp?) needed to give away but the aquarium didn't want it. But they called me back and said since it was endangered they will take it.

Keep trying and you'll eventually find a facility who will be willing to take it. However the vendor will lose out on the $$$ he/she paid for it. But why put an endangered species on the market anyway?

While folks are throwing out suggestions I'd add trying to contact either that Camden aquarium or the norwalk aquarium. Both are liekly within reasonable distance and might be interested/capable of handling a nurse shark.

Good luck.

nurse shark

I saw a nurse shark in Thousand Island Aquarium on Utica avenue in Brooklyn the tank was not that large but it was large and oval shaped with no corners. it was pretty comfortable. Only a person with a custom take would want such a thing. if my swimming pool was indoor ill keep it there though:)

10 North Water Street, Norwalk, CT 06854
Tel: 203-852-0700

i beleive mystic aquarium would take him also last year when i was there they had a shark pool dedicated to sharks that were being donated.
