My 29G Reef Tank Experiment

2 months ago I decided to change my 29g goldfish tank to a reef. I am a total noob so I spent a lot of time in this and other forums reading and reading and reading. Nothing fancy, nothing too expensive......just a clean and simple reef tank.

The next project will be pvc plumbing and some new corals

29G tank metal stand
45 lbs live rock form NYAQUA .....thanks Sal !
30 lbs aragonite
Coralife Super Skimmer 65
Current Orbit 130W PC lighting
Lifereef overflow box
Mag5 return pump
15g homemade sump
maxijet 1200 with hydor rotator
jager 150watt heater
Fluval 205 canister for carbon & purigen

Corals:
Trumpet, Green Star Polyps, Yellow Polyps, Frogspawn, Zoas

2 fake clowns and a cleaner shrimp


(All images taken with a Nikon D200 and nikkor 60mm micro)

Looking for some healthly and cheap corals in North New Jersey !!!

That picture of the cleaner shrimp is excellent!

It looks like a beautiful setup, I'm sure you will have lots of success with it as it appears to be well thought out and overbuilt for the amount of livestock you could fit in there (big sump, skimmer).

You may want to think about ditching the fluval once your skimmer starts humming, unless you are changing the media in there regularly they are more trouble than they are worth.

the rocks look great and your off to a
good start with the coral you've got.
I agree with josh I don't think you will need the canister
filter for anything. I might use it to run carbon but that's about it.

a bit OT but how do you like the D200?
the shots you took look good.
I agree the last one of the shrimp is awesome!

edit: sorry i just read the specs again and saw the canister is for carbon and purigen.
cool, just keep it clean often.

wow great tank... really nice 29er... i remember those days until i upgraded to the 75 gallon.. you did a great job and def. as josh said either ditch the fluval or keep it clean...

RFC, you're off to a great start. Looks very well thought out.
It's a very clean, uncluttered look. 'Grats

If I can make one suggestion, it seems you've got LR touching the side glass on the tank. As algae and then coraline builds up, you won't be able to clean the side glass because of the LR. Leaving the coraline growth on the back glass is customary. But the sides might turn out to be a nuisance, especially since it appears you have side viewing capabilities. Just an observation and not meant to flame.

Keep up the good work and continue posting those quality pix.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments and sorry for the slow reply.

As suggested by many, I moved some of the rocks off the side glass but the tank is pretty small for 45 lbs of rock
