Just becuase you have never heard of it doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Picture 1 nice 3-5 pound rock slides off the top of the pile and hits the bottom JUST right..... Would you want to clean it up and start over

Besides the chance of something happening I just think BB tanks look unfinished...But that's just me

Damn guys my 20 long is bare bottom am getting the best growth I ever got on my corals.. should I go bare bottom or should I make it look more realistic....can we make a lil vote here... What so u guys say...

Is the black acrylic reef safe....

its my understanding the composition of acrylic is the same regardless of color, so clear, white, black, blue, etc. any could be used.

I am BB right now and I love it, but it's a personal choice.. These are the main reasons why I went BB...

- More flow without sand blowing around.
- My tank is acrylic so without sand chances of scratching the tank is reduced.
- Can constantly rearrange corals on the bottom without disturbing the sand, which I find myself doing a lot... And no sand covering coral issue!
- I Hated when I had to clean/scrap the glass of my tank that had sand, reason is the sand would kick up, cause a "mess" and get all over the corals!

Just my 2cents! Other's may differ or not have these issues but I did...

True how's ur coral growth now? When I has sand my coral growth sucked went bare bottom my corals started growing 10 times faster

I've only had 2 tanks. My first was an acrylic with bare bottom and my current tank which is glass has a sand bed. Having a sand bed does create problems with cleaning the glass and small sized sand is affected by currents from the powerheads. If i redo my tank i'll probably line the bottom with acrylic and go BB.

I vote...SAND...but, you could glue a thin layer of sand to the acrylic sheet, so it can't 'blow' around! Probably what I will do to my tank, when I re-do it next month.

BTW, I hope those rocks are in SALT water, in your tank!
