ro/di question

so i was wondering how i would know when to change the filters. and which ones to change. right now the dual inline tds reads 0 from after the ro membrane and 0 from after the di filter. also, the di filter is supposed to change color? i thought it'd be clear but i haven't seen any change in color at all. what am i supposed to be looking for?

should i swap out the carbon filter at the same time as the sediment? and can anyone tell me about the di filter? what color is it supposed to be?

thanks altohombre, i love it because it looks much bigger (in volume) than it really is

zuska, i got it with the possibility of getting a tank bred shark for a year and then taking it with me wherever i move to after that. sharks need the large surface area

so my maintenance regimen is about 20% water change each week. i've only lapsed once so far. i'm going to start running carbon and performing some water testing. i'm going to decide on what i'll be dosing after that. as of right now my tank is copacetic

anyone have thoughts on the ro/di filter?

update: clam....?!?!

so i've been doing 20% water changes weekly. i don't dose anything right now, just water changes with IO/reef crystals/oceanic (whatever i feel like at the moment). i like to skim wet and my remora is still pulling out dark tea. i average almost 10 gallons of evaporation a week. by the way, anyone got an answer to my previous ro/di questions?

anyways, i've never owned a clam and i decided it was time. i got an ora crocea. it cost me a pretty penny and it was pretty small. the pictures were taken last night. today when i turned on the light, i checked on the clam and it was not just dead, but almost completely disintegrated. there is just some small bits of flesh stuck onto the shell. i again took pictures not 30 min ago. my question is: how is this possible? was my clam eaten? again, i don't have any experience with clams but from what i could tell and from what i've read, it looked fine last night. if it was my water parameters, could this happen so acutely? what the heck?!?!

some livestock pictures

i'm more of a fish guy myself. i don't have many corals. i've kept all the basic corals with much success. on my list to try is: clams (see above post), sps, and monti caps.

so back to topic, when i first got the yellow and blue tangs, i knew they looked healthy but were definitely skinny. i've been feeding the tank once a day, alternating between pellets and seaweed/algae. since then they're really looking better and the blue tang has this shimmer and shine to it. at certain angles of the light it looks like its covered in ick (but its clearly not). i've read all the stuff about hlle and i think its a good thing to try and feed a wide variety of things to try and avoid the disfiguring disease

clam

i lost my clam due to a purple tang picking at it. of course the clam closed up when picked on. but the part i think that killed it was when he picked on it he moved the clam and the thread like foot which it uses to attach got torn from the rock it was attached to.. my clam was 3 inches so i guess it was pretty easy to move. I read once the threads of the foot is damaged bad enough sometime it just melts away
