Gresh,

If you are speaking about Steve Robinson as the Amda president, then I still stand behind by statement that no "Industry" people were brought into Amda. Even though Steve was a small wholesaler in the bay area, he did not include or seek any Industry support and remained stringent to dealer involvement.

This method and type of thinking is exactly the opposite of what I was/am proposing.

I think Amda can do better and surely the dealers deserve and need better representation. I know the industry surely needs more than what is currently out there.

Remember, I did say these were just my thoughts on the matter, and I am sure some might not agree with me.

Best regards,

Eric

Re-writing history looks like fun.
Can I join in?
AMDA was smarting from a perceived wholesaler take-over attempt when I joined and the pendulum seemed to have swung away from wholesalers trying to use it as a vehicle to sell thru.
Misusing AMDA for this kind of monkey business was to be avoided at all costs I believed and as a result...I accepted the retailer majority decision on the matter.

i'm specifically refering to the exclusionist and polarizing mindset of the b&m vs etail camps in amda ;)

any org claiming to be representing, or having the best interests at heart for, an industry can't 'have their cake and eat it too'-

or is the amda not pro industry per se, but pro a certain sector of the industry only ? (namely their own ? ).

I certainly agree that the e-tail dropshipping thing has been an unfortunate schism.
Kinda like Republicans and Democrats. Can't agree on many things and ...and ...thats called Democracy.
Unlike most groups we hear about, AMDA has elections every 2 years....and the vote determines it all.

Vitz,

I might be leaning your way and change my mind regarding Amda. With elections still a year and a half away, I think it's wiser to look at another means to organize with.

Anyone have a non-profit shell available?

any sector of this biz that devlops a politicized or self serving agenda (and i don't mean politicized the way wayne would think) will do this indutsry no service whatsoever

and until the majority of hobbyists even begin to care-it's all irrelevant anyway

all the legislation in the world never was able to stop those who really wanted something from getting it ;)

AMDA has elections at the end of this year...not 1 1/2 more years.

Shell= empty vessel.....hmmmm....how bout MAC?
Eric,
You can always make another run at AMDA and as Paula Abdul says...make it your own.

Thanks Steve......I thought the Amda elections were every two years?

Wasn't it just 6 months ago that the elections took place and you finished your second term?

To help us all better understand how Amda works, please share with us your experiences to learn from.

What did you learn while you were President?

What goals did you succeed in achieving?

What were your biggest challenges?

Good to know!

"Lookee there...all in the Kool-aid and don't even know the flavor!"

To help us all better understand how Amda works, please share with us your experiences to learn from.
AMDA...like SDC is nothing but the energy of the people running it. "It", like marriage.... does nothing by itself.

What did you learn while you were President?

I learned not to trust less passionate and more calculating people. I learned to never enter into a deal with MAC again as they sabatoged the 1,000 man training alliance w/ CORL, AMDA and THEM that they helped create. This could have led to much good news and co-operative efforts.
The MAC country co-ordinators has revealed it all now and we know what happened. Sabatoging the training movement was done to contain the credit for MAC alone. Its an obsession with them to be the one. ..despite their inability to do this kind of work.
So....here we are, still waiting for the trickle to become a bigger trickle of fish.

What goals did you succeed in achieving?

Keeping AMDA out of the rubber stamp for MAC business was the 2nd achievement.
Starting the Net Fund notions, redefining their importance and supplying the sources for nets and nets themselves was critical to letting converted divers know that all of us have not abandoned them.
Now they know the real nets we used long ago are available and they all wonder why...why MAC would not supply them.
Several supply lines now exist.

What were your biggest challenges?

Dealing initially with a BOD loaded w/ service guys and MAC moonies looking for personal advantages, stickers, wall certificates and "what will this group give me back for my 50 dollars."
Converting it back to the original John Tullock mission , ie. focused on sustainability and the defense of the trades better self was all I was there for.
Creating just a chamber of commerce for an elite group of retailers is not what I ever would be a part of.
Now that the self reform of the trade has been reenforced with more netting supply, it can continue to progress with or without foreigner involvement.

If foreign groups ever want to really help...they can, but this has to be more locally focused and local talent needs to supplant inexperienced yet higher paid Americans w/ their ridiculous top down notions of social development..
We understood this far, far better then the current groups but they have the $ to reenforce their errors.
Any more questions?

Steve,

I don't really understand you and your way of thinking, but please start back at the top and answer the first question I asked. Wasn't the elections for Amda just 6 months ago? How can the new elections be coming up this year when the terms are 2 years? Man how time flies!

Best regards

Eric

P.S What does Kool-Aid have to do with anything? I don't get it.

Eric,
You're missing a year. [ I hate it when that happens]
The elections were last year at the beginning.
Burton Patrick has been president now for 1 1/2 years!
I missed last years IMAC and MACNA....as I was not president then.
As president I always presented [ power point on net training ] and staffed a booth.
You have just awoken from a long sleep....
Guess who won the world series and the superbowl...
Guess whos Governor of Kalifornia now.
We're still in Iraq.
Another season of 24 is in the can.
American Idol...?
If we are missing these references....never mind bout the Koolaid metaphor.
